This is an ok lager but has much too high a price tag for what you get......

(Bottle). Extremely sweet low ABV (2%) Scottish stout, traditionally recommended for nursing mothers and convalescents to regain their strength. Scotsmen drink it mixed half&half with Guinness. Might be a good idea. I had it on its own at room temperature, and found it way too sweet, nearly undrinkable.

Bottled. Comes in small, ancient looking and in fact rather ugly bottle. Deep ruby. Sweaty, salty, fruity nose. Very malty, thick mouthfeel, low bitterness. One-dimensional, but according to the bartender in the Scottish pub where I bought it, it was mostly used by some customers to add a spike to their bitters.

Keg at The Three Judges, Glasgow. Copper coloured beer, off-white head, nice lacing. Nice aroma of butterscotch and malts. Moderate malty flavour, hints of butterscotch, minimal hops, not very exciting. I have also had the nitro-keg "Velvet" version in Glasgow previously - looks nice, smooth mouthfeel, easy drinking, but not much of a challenge flavourwise.

Tennent’s Velvet, sampled draught (nitro-dispensed) at an awful pub in Inverness called Harvey’s Bar. Ruby colour, creamy head. Spicy aroma. Sweet with medium body. Smooth, soft mouthfeel, a hint of grapefruit. Orangey, rather bitter finish. Tennents Special 70/- at the same bar Ruby colour. Neutral aroma. Sweetish with really light body and unclean maltiness. Watery mouthfeel and low bitterness. Lifeless.

Slightly skunked - not much else in aroma. Gold with large head. Not skunky in flavor, thankfully. Snappy malt character and lightly hopped. Decent, clean lager.

An ordinary lager, easily drinkable without too much of anything. However, I won't buy it again of two reasons: a) In Norway, the price is twice that of domestic lagers / pilsener, while the beer isn't that much better (well, it's 0,3 - 0,5% stronger). b): When in Scotland, I will most certainly prefer a good Scottish ale to any lager!
