Description
For over 20 years, Arcadia Ales has been committed to a British Inspired – American Brewed stable of beers. We aspire to brew beers that achieve brilliance through balance – ales that satisfy the senses with complex flavor while providing pure refreshment that leaves you wanting more.

In 1996, our first 25 barrel batch was brewed on a Brick Kettle Brewing System from England at our Battle Creek, MI location. Fast-forward – today every batch is produced in our 50 barrel American-made brewhouse at our Kalamazoo Riverfront Brewery, Pub and Garden. Our 20th Anniversary in 2016 ushered in a new era of brewing possibilities with the installation of two new 100bbl closed fermentation tanks giving us the ability to use new yeast strains while we continue to brew classic Arcadia Ales using our distinctive, proprietary yeast strain in our traditional, open fermenters. The ability to brew with new yeast strains opens up the Arcadia Brewing Company portfolio of offerings, allowing our brewers to be creative in ways that were not previously accessible and broadening the scope of beers produced. With these changes, we still keep our promise to use only the finest domestic and English malted barley, along with the highest quality hops available from the Pacific Northwest and Michigan.

Admin Note: Formerly named Arcadia Brewing Co. In the spring of 2014, Arcadia completed a new production facility in Kalamazoo, MI. The Battle Creek facility closed in 2016. The company ceased all operations in September 2019.

In June 2020, the Superfluid Supply Co. division of Short's Brewing announced its purchase of Arcadia's beer brands and intellectual property. Whitsun Ale was the first release with plans to resurrect other recipes in the future as well.

OK, Chirchill, smoking a big cigar! 12 oz brown bottle from the Beer Store in Moon. Pop the lid and it smells like a campfire that was put out with water, damp and musty. The aroma clears to a piercing spicy-ness once poured. The taste of this is like an imperial stout or foreign stout, can’t be a porter. The head is nearly the color of chocolate mousse. Terrible terrible unexpected bitterness like I was eating the cold coals of the campfire. The back of my throat is not happy and my uvula is expressing feelings of despair! Impy stout lovers will rate this high. The alky content is readily apparent. Please, somebody give me a Yuengling black & tan to warsh this down with! Terrible lasting impression on the finish. Will not buy again. JW Dundee’s porter and Saranac Caramel porter is a little better than this.

bottle - Pours dark amber with a thin, enduring head. It smells of malts, dark fruit, and a touch of alcohol. The flavor has caramel malts, dark fruit, and some big hops that kick in particularly in the finish. It’s medium bodied with light carbonation. I really enjoyed this one.

This is good. Thick, black beer. The aroma has some malt and a light roasted character. Flavor is a little sweet, with roasted malt, but no smoke which I think would have helped this beer. Thick and heavy palate.

2006 vintage bomber bottle. This is the least strong of their "Big Beer Series," so I’m not taking the chance of cellaring too long. Pours dark reddish brown, little to no head. Warm alcohol and malt smell. Taste is slightly tart; mostly fruity warm-fermented ale taste, thick caramel malt, almost chewy. Light hop balance. Picked up in December that Arcadia’s 10th anniversary celebration.

tap at the brewpub - Pours hazy golden with a medium sized head. It has a wheat and citrus aroma. The flavor has very ample citrus notes playing around in sweet malts. It’s medium bodied, lively, and very easy to drink. Very good.

tap at the brewpub - Pours amber with a medium sized head. It has a light hoppy aroma. The flavor strikes a nice balance with moderately strong hops and caramel malts. Lively carbonation bubbles on the palate of this solid session brew.

tap at the brewpub - Pours reddish-brown with a thin head. The aroma has lots of caramel malt and some dark fruit notes. The flavor has more caramel and plenty of dark fruit. There’s a little alcohol noticeable. The medium body has light carbonation. Overall it’s fairly light and crisp for a big beer, but I enjoyed it very much. The reviews here are surprisingly low.
