2002 Bottle #3370
Reddish amber colour with dark brown highlights and a thin tan head. Trillions of small bubbles rise from the bottom if you look real close. Sweet, sour, pungent aroma which makes the mouth water. Some sour fruit smells mixed with nice fruit tastes and a maltiness which is fairly noticeable. Light-bodied; Very sour flavour that shows some character and complexity all the way through the finish. The beer coats the mouth and leaves a nice flavourful sourness at the end. Some of the flavours remind me of raspberries or pungent cherries. Some slight woody and peppery flavours finish out the beer, although they are a bit subtle. Overall, I really liked this beer, and I wish I could have it every day. I thought that this one would be my first 5.0, but the depth in the taste really just isn't there for me to declare this as perfect. This style is really growing on me, and this is a great example of the beer. I have to thank CaptainCougar for sending me this one...i'm really lucky to try it! Cheers Tom :-) I've had this beer more than 20 times, but feel again that I should keep rating/reviewing it. Great deep brown coloured body with a nice, four centimetre tall tan head atop. Aroma of wine, vinegar, amazing oak and dry notes, but that sour candy note that dominates. Medium-bodied; Mellow oaky flavour with some cedar, but the sour funk and dryness dominates with the fruit, alcohol and more assertive vinous and acidic vingar flavours that show through, but leave this very nice. Overall, while being +6 years old, this still shows amazingly well and is a very nice beer throughout. While I first sampled this once I first turned twenty-one, I sampled this 6+ year old bottle before ever having a single kid, now upon the birth of my third child [first son], bringing home for the first time...Bottle purchased at Binny's in Chicago (Lincoln Park), Illinois on 04-December-2011 for US$15,99 sampled at home in Washington after bringing my son home for the first time on 05-November-2017 - Happy Birthday Tate, this was purchased before Claire was ever conceived. Truly made a gorgeous pour- rich garnet, winelike red with a frothy, creamy light tan head. Potent candi sugar and vinous notes in the aroma. Highly carbonated mouthfeel, with dark fruits and candi sugar rounding out the flavor with bananas and spice.

Sweet and syrupy. This is one of those beers you have to twist the bottle to get the beer to pour. Nice color and aroma though. Raspberrys were used out the wazoo on this beer. The first sniff and taste is raspberrys. Like old gradmas jam. Overall haveing one,just one, of these on a cold evening is not all bad. This beer would suit anyone who likes a really sweet wine.

Dark orange; creamy (colour and consistency)head. Very slight malt in the nose. Sourish, gingerish, peppery hints in the taste on a very malty base. Not half bad. Medium-bodied, slick feeling in the throat. Nice. Quite drinkable, which I find difficult with anything swarming towards ginger. The French bière de Mars is not really considered Saison, though...

(draught) Orange corn colour; slight white head. Rather fresh grassy smell - do I smell cornsyrup/cornflakes? Grass returns in the taste, but with a roasted malt aftertaste following a rather long bitterish finish. Hint of esters. Light mouthfeel, some body from the ?corn?. Not very exciting really. Not bad neither.

(draught) Yellow to (very) light amber; small white head, very good lace. Very light malts nose, lightly grassy aroma. Very light malt taste, ever so slight bitterish finish. Very light body, but with a nice Champenoise pearling. Rather uninteresting pilsener.

(draught) Clear amber; slim white head. Crystal malts, rather overblown. Very malty taste, with peppery touch, excellent balance. Well-bodied; short malt-sweet aftertaste. Very malty, but quite good allrounder. Wonder why the afficionado's despise it so. If Palm or Op-ale was the target, this one's better. If it was De Koninck however... it's missing some Saaz.

(lagertank - 2003) Hazy orange; slim yellowish stable head. Good Brettanomyces character, malonic, lactic and sage. Super mixture involving lactic, acetic, nearly lambiclike, vinous, phenolic and estery, wood, and yet a hint of sweetness of infermentables. Huge acidburn, sharp end. You gotta love it.

(draught - very young) Rosy-red clear colour; pink little rim. Heavy cherry-gum nose, rich. Little something behind it, malt-like. Very interesting tart taste, fruity (sweet & sour cherries), nothing artificial - Brett character is not outspoken. Light mouthfeel but nowhere thin. Fruit obviously helps to fill in. Long tart aftertaste. Great & promessing. Would benefit enormously from laying down (colour excepted). I think this ought to be classified under lambic-fruit!

Deep chestnut, slim head. Fruity nose, candy sugar apparent. Bitter, from dark roasted malts, dry, taste of brown candi sugar. Some banana, but restrained. Well-bodied, alcohol very obvious. Interesting - a whole other interpretation with the words 'Grand Cru'. Any name is better than Quadrupel. Infinitely better than their double.
