Description
Crooked Stave Brewing Company is an artisan microbrewery in Denver, Colorado. It was founded by beer lover and beer brewer Chad Yakobson. The establishment of Crooked Stave was the result of Chad’s years of travel and studies about beer brewing abroad. His study of Master of Science in Brewing and Distilling at a university in Scotland gave him the expertise to set up his own brewery. Crooked Stave brewery is known for their brewing specialty in Brettanomyces fermentations and barrel-aged sour and wild ales. Crooked Stave Brewing Company is home to some of the finest sour beers. Some of its remarkable beers are the Crooked Stave Surette, Crooked Stave Vieille and Crooked Stave St. Bretta.

From tap at The Wateringhole, Amsterdam. Aroma is lots of tart and sour raspberry with mild barnyard funk. Flavour is tart and above medium sour with some sweet notes and a fairly dry finish. Body is medium. Lovely tart raspberry beer.

Bottle at Café De Koffer, Groningen. Quite the fruity aroma with tart citrus, peach, soft wheaty malt, white wine, stone fruits, notes of hay, and light funk. Flavour is tart and medium sour with a dry finish. Body is medium. Very tasty fruity Crooked Sour.

Bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Aroma is bretty funk with citrus, lemon, hay, grass, mineral, grain, and peppery saison yeast. Flavour is tart and mild sour with a light to moderate bitter dry finish. More cheesy funk throughout. Body is medium. Light and crushable yet complex and funky with grass, grain, citrussy fruits, and yeast. Light but wonderfully complex, an ace Saison!

Bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. Aroma is fruity with citrus, bretty funk, orange, apricot, spicy yeast, some oak and grainy malt. Flavour is tart and sweetish, light sour. Body is medium. Nicely tart and fruity, bit sweetish and funky. Very drinkable, lovely Saison!

0.355l can. Aroma of caramel, dark fruits and flowers. Pours cloudy amber brown color with large soapy tan-like head, good lacing and average sparkling appearance. Taste starts medium sweet toasted malty and caramelly, following is herbal, floral, mild fruity and medicinal, mouthfeel is smooth, while finish is bitter and dry. Can from Carmine Street Beers, New York. Nice citrussy and bretty aroma with orange, lemongrass, funk, Saison yeast, coriander, and wheaty pale malt. Tartish, lightly sweet and moderate sour. Medium body. Tasty!

Bottle from Bierkoning, Amsterdam. September 2015. Aroma is tart stone fruits with lots of peach, apricot, funk, citrus, some oak with a hint of vanilla. Flavour is puckering sourness with a touch of sweetness. Body is medium. Great, nicely sour with loads of tart fruits and peach in particular, some complexity from the barrel.

From tap at BeerTemple, Amsterdam. Puckering sourness with an aroma of peach skins, more tart stone fruits, some apricot and a suggestion of oak. Crisp and puckering with a little acidity, dry finish. Medium body. Great!

Bottle from De Bierliefhebber. Aroma is bretty funk, tart fruits, peach, oak, citrus, lightly grain, some lemon. Flavour is tart and moderate to medium sour with a dry-ish conclusion. Medium body. Crisp and funky with plenty of tart peach, more fruits. Very good!
