0.5l bottle courtesy of and shared with ozujsko (thanks!) After the abysmal Erdinger wheat n/a, I didn’t have big expectations from this one. Still, it turned out to be a pleasant surprise in the end. It looks great, dark murky orange-ochre colour with a big, thick and persistent white head. The nose is closer to a proper weissbier than I expected; chewed up bubblegum, cloves, some grain, caramel and meat. The taste is, extremely watery, perfumey cloves, some caramel, a bit sourish. This was probably a proper weissbier once. All in all, refreshing and very good for the style.

Big offwhite shiny lasting head. Hazy opaque dark yellow body. Bready rubbery yeasty aroma with notes of ketchup. Dryish watery mealy taste with papery notes. Much too watery. Thin-bodied. Dry chalky aftertaste. This was quite unpleasant. (0.5l bottle from gr0ve, shared on the bus to RBNAG’07.)

Bottled. An unclear orange beer with a white head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of wheat, while the flavor is sweet malty with strong notes of wheat and medium notes of caramel, leading to a dry wheaty finish.

Sampled at the Odds and Ends Tasting II on 10/19/07: This brew is a hazy yellowish color with a medium and foamy white head that diminshes slowly. Small patches of lacing on the glass. Aroma of yeast, clove and fruit. Light-bodied with sweet grainy malt and honey flavors offset by mild spices and hops. The finish is yeasty with a light spice finish. Above average overall.

Draught, as Konig Ludwig, in Norderstedt, near Hamburg. Slightly darker than usual for a hefeweizen and less fruity, quite sweet and thinly bodied with some spiciness in the finish. Easy to drink, but uninspiring.

500ml botlle as König Ludwig Weissbier Hell. Hazy, orange body colour under a fast fading head. Weak weissen aroma of cloves and wheat. Light taste of vanilla sweetness mixed with a spicy touch. Yeast and hints of fruit in a short finish. Oily and thin mouthfeel (Trier, 14.09.2007).

500ml bottel as König Ludwig Weissbier Dunkel . Unclear, dark organge body. Lasting, beige foam. Sweet malty aroma with notes of yeast. Fruity taste of apples and banana mixed with tartness. Slightly yeasty ending. Moderate palate (Trier, 12.09.2007).

Kaltenberg Lager (Croatian version) 0,5 l can. Pours pale yellow body with relatively large white head. Nice aroma with citrus and grass hops, somewhat malty too. Flavor, as aroma, also reminds to the Pils, maybe even just a hint better. Palate is also fine, notably better and longer than Pils. Carbonation just great. A good beer.
