Apr ’15. On tap at the restaurant/brewpub as special tap. It poured clear dark ruby body with medium sized head. Complex aroma, sweet vinous notes mix up with caramel and toffee. Flavor was lightly sour and a tad bitter, but also sweet from its toasted malts. Vinous, dubbel-like notes of overripe dark fruit were more dominant than its caramel counterpart. Although rich and full bodied, it diminishes into short, a bit dusty alt aftertaste. Touched with hops near the end. Still, a very interesting and a very nice altbier.

Apr ’15. On tap at the restaurant/brewpub. It poured hazy darker brown body with medium sized latte head. Caramel, sugar, a simple toasted malt aroma. A bit dusty, too. Flavor was lightly sweet with touch of weird vinous sourness but it did not ruin the beer. Smooth and cloying but not particularly full in body. Vague hop bitterness felt in the finish, but still toasted malt absolutely dominated all the way through. Sweet, but not exaggerated, just enough for the style. Not as brilliant as their helles, but still a fine brewpub dunkel.

Apr ’15. On tap at the restaurant/brewpub. It poured a lightly hazy golden body with medium sized head. Aroma was lightly yeasty at first, fine honey malty with sharp herbal and cardboard hop presence. Flavor consisted of straightforward bitterness, herbal and citric, then it got rounded with chalky and biscuit malt. Rich and creamy within its medium body, with a long, bitterish herbal finish. Enjoyable. A very well made helles/pils.
