Can from Aldi. Amber with a fat coat of white head Pretty watery with a touch of cardboard as well as honey and a little stone fruit. But oddly the lack of body (combined with rather tentative nitro) brings the modest bitter finish into greater prominence - which for me makes it beat the Pub Ale. You could drink buckets of this but you wouldn't enjoy it much - if that isn't authenticity, I don't know what is.

330ml can from Sainsburys, Darlington. Orangey gold colour, white foam head leaving lacing and aroma of fruity, malt, orangey. Taste is sweet, malty, barley, dried fruits, toffee, mellow, citrus, spicy, boozy, earthy. Syrupy mouthfeel, medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi-dry warm boozy finish. OK.

Is this a nitro can? What's going on here? Ah it is! Quite nice, creamy bitter straight out of the can. Light but creamy smoothie.

Brewed in Russia. Clear golden pour. Large white head. Weak retention. Aroma: honey, cereals, light alcohol and esters. Medium body. Taste: sweet malts, honey. No flaws. That's it.

12oz can, courtesy of SarkyNorthener, pours with a clear copper gold body that supports a thin off white head of foam. The aroma offers up pear and apple fruity esters as well as sweet malts and a thin hit of black pepper. The taste delivers similar notes such as sweet slick estery pear and ripe red apple fruitiness as well as sugar sweet malts and a mild sting of booze. Decent. Kind of the malt liquor of barleywine.

500ml can. Brewed in Russia. Pours pale yellow with a small white head. Aroma is paper, corn. Taste is light sweet, cereal. Very watery. Worse than the usual budwesier, which I may have rated a little harshly.

Amber colour with thin head. Aroma and flavour have some toasted malts. Not as pungent as it used to be. Nice historic ale though.
