About
Hogs Back Brewery was founded in 1992 in Tongham, and bought by current owner Rupert Thompson in 2012. In 2014, Hogs Back planted its own hop field on land adjacent to the brewery, bringing the traditional but near-extinct White Bine hop variety back to its Surrey home.

We’re a small family-owned brewery tucked away in the village of Tongham, in the heart of the old Surrey hop-growing region. Still an independently owned brewery, Hogs Back owe much of their success to their iconic, flagship real ale 'TEA' (Traditional English Ale) - a firm favourite of cask-conditioned real ale drinkers throughout the UK and a multi-award winning brew year-in, year-out.

Very little foam sits on top of a boring gold body. Aroma is somewhere between a bad lager and laundry detergent. Flavour is muddy grains, some hops, fermented bread. Wet finish. Serviceable I suppose but not inspiring.

Bouteille 50cl @ Niamey Craft beer tasting, thanks Balasz.

330ml bottle at home. Bought it more for a joke than anything. Its not bad though, I couldnt have more than one...way too sweet. One of those beers where the look of it doesnt match the flavour...should be a brownish to black stout like Youngs Double Chocolate or something. No sense in trying to analyse this one too much, its basically all milk chocolate aroma and flavour. Interesting

Bottle from Sainsbury's in Blackpool. Medium amber, clear, small bubbly head. Aroma is malty, leathery, woody. Taste adds some tangy bitterness, a bit too tangy perhaps. Also, the body seems thin. About what I expected.

Medium plus sweetness, light bitterness. Medium to full bodied, slick texture, average carbonation. My 12th Hogs Back beer and best so far.

Bottle at Hogs Back Hotel. Light floral aroma. The taste is also light - some bitterness with sweetness coming through into the finish. Light and thin. Average carbonation. Abrupt finish. Bland as. But at least it goes down easily.
