Established in 1992
We’re a small family-owned brewery tucked away in the village of Tongham, in the heart of the old Surrey hop-growing region. Still an independently owned brewery, Hogs Back owe much of their success to their iconic, flagship real ale 'TEA' (Traditional English Ale) - a firm favourite of cask-conditioned real ale drinkers throughout the UK and a multi-award winning brew year-in, year-out.

Old rating from 26-12-15 - A 330ml bottle poured into a De Struise glass. Amber in colour with carbonation and a white foamy head that disperses. Quite surprises it wasn't a dark colour. Aromas of chololate & sweet malt. Taste is dominated by chocolate and some vanilla, with a golden lager flavour in the background with a mild bitterness. Aftertaste of chocolate. Overall worth a try, but I would avoid a second bottle.

Slight nuttiness, some light slinky hops, and pale malts. Flavor is thin and is dominated by caramel malts, and more nuttiness. Really overall this is thin and bland and I’m pretty disapojnted

Bottle from a local Lidl. Aroma is pale malt with powdery chocolate, vanilla, and notes of marshmallows. Flavour is medium sweet and light bitter. Body is light to medium. I did not expect to enjoy this one, but it kinda works.

Cask at the Southampton Arms, London on 4th February 2025. Deep sepia with shallow tan foam and full lacing. Slightly sour roasty aroma. Roasty in-mouth with sour citrus, smoky spices and nuttiness. Sweet-sour finish. Light bodied with a smooth mouthfeel.
