Description
Hogs Back Brewery was founded in 1992 in Tongham, and bought by current owner Rupert Thompson in 2012. In 2014, Hogs Back planted its own hop field on land adjacent to the brewery, bringing the traditional but near-extinct White Bine hop variety back to its Surrey home.
We’re a small family-owned brewery tucked away in the village of Tongham, in the heart of the old Surrey hop-growing region. Still an independently owned brewery, Hogs Back owe much of their success to their iconic, flagship real ale 'TEA' (Traditional English Ale) - a firm favourite of cask-conditioned real ale drinkers throughout the UK and a multi-award winning brew year-in, year-out.

Pours dark brown with a large and dense head. Aroma of roasted malt, toffee and dried plums. Smooth mouth feel. Taste is well roasted - almost smoked - malt. There's also notes of toffee and dried plums. Great beer!

Can at and thanks to James, 21/06/2025.
Clear golden amber topped with an off white cap that thins to the edge.
Nose is light perfume, grass, melon, citric sherbets.
Taste comprises orange zest, light breads, melon, airy malts.
Medium bodied, fine carbonation, semi drying close dashed with modest hop bitterness.
Simplistic sessioner ... nothing I'd revisit.

Old rating - 500ml bottle, pours a light reddy brown with a white foamy head. Aromas & tastes of dark fruits, chocolate, vanilla, roasted nuts, cinnamon & hints of liquorice. Mild malty finish. Decent winter ale in summer.
