Description
Hogs Back Brewery was founded in 1992 in Tongham, and bought by current owner Rupert Thompson in 2012. In 2014, Hogs Back planted its own hop field on land adjacent to the brewery, bringing the traditional but near-extinct White Bine hop variety back to its Surrey home.

We’re a small family-owned brewery tucked away in the village of Tongham, in the heart of the old Surrey hop-growing region. Still an independently owned brewery, Hogs Back owe much of their success to their iconic, flagship real ale 'TEA' (Traditional English Ale) - a firm favourite of cask-conditioned real ale drinkers throughout the UK and a multi-award winning brew year-in, year-out.

[Bottle, gift from my wife - cheers!] I do like these "punny" named beers for special occasions. Sorry! This one’s deep amber, moderate white head. Rather fizzy at first but this does die back to leave quite a smooth beer. Toffee dominates from the off, and it’s one the sweet side. There’s a little peppery straw in the finish, but otherwise it’s toffee through and through. It’s one dimensional, admittedly, but as an Autumnal ale it’s quite pleasing. I’m not sure why an Autumn-style beer was released for an early summer Jubilee, but as it turned out, we had Autumn weather anyway, so the brewer obviously knew what they were doing!

Bottle @ home. Orange, copper colour with a quickly gone head. Smells bitter, malty and easy. Tastes bitter, malty and a small chocolate/caramel taste on the side (not like in a stout ofc). Decent carbo, thin body. Easy to drink, nothing special.

500ml bottle. Clear darkest brown with small firm creamy lacing tan head. Flat dark malt aroma with soapy touch instead of roast. Taste is continously dry, almost soapy, boring, disappointing.

Golden color, small head. Light, anonymous aroma. The simple malt flavor has light caramel and a light smell of cabbage and vegetables. Correct bitterness.
