Helder geel bier met mooie schuimkraag. Smaak is bitter hoppig en een geur die de hop duidelijk laat ruiken. Fijne lang blijvende nasmaak in de mond. Heel fijn.

Blonde beer honouring Cowboy Henk, a familiar cartoon character in Flanders created by two comedians back in the eighties for the Humo magazine. Towering high, eggshell-white, plaster-lacing, pillowy, dense and rocky head over a hazy to eventually 'milky' peach blonde beer with beige tinge. Aroma of old wrinkled apples, stale lemon juice (infection!), field flowers, spoiled white bread dough, old potatoes, sweat, grass, overripe cucumber and even 'old' dishwater. 'Wildly' estery onset, peach, pear and green apple mingled with a pronounced cucumber- or sorrel-like sourness which becomes 'dirtier' along the way, medium carbonation (a bit stingy even), soft and fluffy mouthfeel; doughy malt core, old-bready and sourish-wheaty - unfortunately for the latter, as it only accentuates the sourish aspect of the obvious infection that has taken place here. Dull coriander spiciness in the end, low grassy hop bitter touch and ongoing yeasty and bacterial 'dirtiness'. Enough said: this Ostend brewery was already the worst microbrewery in Belgium in my book, literally making all of the mistakes a brewery can make from one failed brew to another (I had the most extreme cases of gushing, cases of extreme diacetyl and cases of extreme imbalance - and not one single 'good' beer from them), and this Blonde Kuif only confirms my opinion. Good ol' Cowboy Henk, though notorious for its absurd humour, deserves much better than this - and considering I poured half of it down the drain, I cannot but give a deservedly low score.

Very good, dense, just light-yellowish head over clear deep-golden well-carbonated beer. Spicy, herbal; dry-spiciness and a hint at white candi sugar. Bit spicy hops, dried herbs. Again spicy malts but with an immediate " zuurtje ", an acidity I'm sure that was unintended. True, it's not really disturbing. Sourish celeri, ending a tad soupy. Light if quite slick. Very well-carbonated. Hm. We've had worse from 't Koelschip. Thanks to Stef!

33cl bottle from supermarket MAENHOUT in Oostende. F: big, white, long lasting. C: gold, hazy. A: malty, funky, bit spicy, hay. T: medium malty base, orange peels, spicy, bit sour tones, dry on the palate, yeasty, high carbonation, not very good balanced for the style.

Slow gusher. Clear blond colour with fizzy head. Aroma has yeast residue and floral notes. Texture is thin and watery. Not particularly flavoursome. In the finish there's a hint of astringency and indication of yet another infected beer from this brewery.

Pale yellow with light haze and lasting head. Aroma and flavour have some lightly spicy yeast and some soft banana sweetness. Has a little citrus bite in the finish.

Dark brown colour, beige foam. Rather weak and watery. Nose of roasted malts, some caramel. Very thin body, I can't believe this is 9%.

30/I/21 - 33cl bottle from De Hopduvel (Gent), shared @ home, BB: nothing there (2021-98)

Clear blond to orange beer with lots and lots of small debris floating around in the glas, irregular off-white head, pretty stable, non adhesive. Aroma: very malty, grains, cow fodder, raw grains, floral, yeasty, spicy, some overripe banana. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: bitter start, bit chemical or medicinal bitterness, grapefruit touch, metallic touch, very bitter, yeasty, coriander. Aftertaste: very bitter finish, dry, malty, grains, cow fodder, spicy, very metallic finish. Not an IPA at all...
