Description
Our craft beers are contemporary yet rooted in history and inspired by classic types of beer. You can taste the history of prison town Veenhuizen in our beers. The Maallust beers are artisanal, authentic and brewed with only the very best ingredients. Whether it’s our hoppy blonde Weldoener or the treacherously smooth tripel Zware Jongen; Maallust beers are full of character.

Maallust was founded in 2011. It was initiated by a group of 25 entrepeneurs who call themselves the ‘Zware Jongens’ (Heavy Guys). They not only started brewing in Veenhuizen, they also revived the dilapidated Maallust complex. After a thorough renovation, the brewery opened its doors. Today, the Maallust complex looks marvelous, and its beer is available all throughout the Netherlands. Maallust is the perfect addition to a village with a unique history.

Tap at Cafe Briljant, Harlem. Poured a hazy light amber with a frothy white head. The aroma is of banana, leading to a big crushed banana flavour, with some weak acidity on the smooth palate.

Tap @ Drie Dorstige Herten. Cloudy golden color, short head. Aroma of quite some wheat, grainy note, smooth banana, only some hints of clove. Slight sweet taste, soft bitterness, slight dry. The balance between banana and clove is pretty good towards the banana, which I like. The grainy notes of the wheat gives it some extra power. Very nice stuff actually.

Bottle from ABC Beers, Den Haag. Poured a clear dark chesnut brown with a thin off-white head. The aroma is rich fruity and alcoholic. The flavour is a little bitter and very sweet on the palate. There is lot’s of zesty fruit in there and some alcohol inspired liqourice, but given the relatively high ABV it’s rather smooth and well controlled. It really is a very good beer, but the sweetness could become a little sickly after a while.
