15/12/2016 @home - 33cl bottle from a trade with tderoeck. Amber colour with no real head, just a small lacing. Malty, sweet, some caramel. Way too boozy.

14/11/2016 @home - 33cl bottle from a trade with tderoeck. Dark orange to coppery colour with huge rocky head. Nose is wet malty, some caramel, some fruits. Taste is malty, caramel, fruits but some rotten flavour. I felt sorry to have asked to fetch me this. First in the drain in a very long time.

Bottle from a Delhaize supermarket in Ghent. Like the witbier variant I tasted before this, this beer exhibits a towering high, rocky, frothy, bath foam-like head rising above the edge of the glass even minutes after pouring, light beige in colour; pure amber colour, warm dark orange with a coppery hue, hazy with turbulent sparkling. Aroma of peach, straw, chestnut, soap, orange peel, caramelized sugar, strawberry, honey, field flowers, white grape, apple cake, ripe purple gooseberries, marmelade (strongly so - I guess this represents the ’appelsien’ factor), dried mango, candied banana, sweet cherry tomato, sourdough and - fortunately hidden well in the background - something ’stinky’ not unlike old dish water. Vividly fruity taste, strawberry, peach and banana sweetness with a redcurrant-like sourishness, spritzy carbo, soft and smooth, lightly oily mouthfeel. Pleasantly honeyish and caramelly malt sweetness in the middle, nutty touch and aven a light toasted bitterish accent, light spicy phenolic impressions, peppery hop bitterish touch as well, floral, with a sweet orange flavor lingering as well as some earthy yeastiness. Enhanced interpretation of ’speciale belge’ - a traditional Belgian ale style which I think is in dire need of innovation - adding a sweet orange flavor to the mix, more aromatic and spicy than is typical for the style; interesting, I did enjoy this after all, ignoring the sulfuric ’stinky’ note in the nose.

Bottle from a Delhaize supermarket in Ghent. Very rocky, towering high, dense, almost cauliflower-like head, snow white and creeping up over the edge of the glass even minutes after pouring, leaving extensive cobweb-like lacing; immediately cloudy straw blonde robe with ochre hue and lively fizz. Aroma of a lot of soapy wheat, white bread dough, lime zest, coriander seed, dusty yeast, old paper, dried lemon peel, raw turnip, dried lavender, sourdough, courgette flesh, raw gherkin. Softly fruity onset, pear, unripe peach, hint starfruit, subdued sweetness with quite a lot of vivid sourishness, almost Berliner Weisse-like as kraddel already pointed out below, crisp and refreshing, minerally carbonation, supple and light body; very wheaty (soapy) and lightly bready middle, touch grainy, with the soapiness further accentuated in the finish due to the coriander, lemon zest-like aromatic sourishness continuing, some earthy yeastiness and light phenols, bready, with a vague and soft earthy hop bitter touch near the tail. Aromatic, elegant, zesty and light: this beer fits the typical characteristics of the style and does so with more sourness and dried citrus peel than your average standard witbier; not just another Hoegaarden clone, but a refreshing witbier interpretation in its own right. Quite nice example of a style I usually do not favor that much.

Bottle @ home shared with Thompson. Hazy light orange color, medium to full sized rough off-white head. Aroma reminds me of a not fully ripe grape and some grapepeel. Taste malts, light hints of fruitpeel, slightly alcohol, slight bitterness in the finish. Decent body and carbonation. Hmm ok beer.

Bottle @ home shared with Thompson. Clear pale golden color, medium sized rough white head that lasts for a decent while. Aroma of wheat and light citrus, citruspeel. Taste wheat, light citruspeel, light bitter. Not a typical witbier I’d say, has a slight twist which I don’t dislike. Quite decent.
