Description
We are the incredible result of what happens when brewers wonder “what if” and pursue that curiosity to its fullest. We created Springdale to push the limits of fermentation and explore flavors with the hope of creating bold new beers to share with our friends. That’s why we launched with the largest barrel program in Massachusetts. Over 1300 barrels currently sit in our taproom working their slow magic on beautiful beers. But that wasn’t enough for us. Next we dove into IPAs, traditional European beers with new twists, and fruit-forward kettle sours. All of these were created to explore fermentation forward beers and find new ways to share them with you.
We arrived at this pursuit in a unique way as well. The brewers of Jack’s Abby had been cultivating killer craft lagers for years before we launched, but found themselves wanting to push the limits of beer far beyond their core, traditional lagers. That left them with only one choice – start a whole new brand. That curiosity and willingness to take risks is what launched Springdale. The quality and expertise in this brewery is what drives Springdale.

From barrel in brewery. Appearance is clear magenta with no sparkle or head. Aroma is tons of oak barrel and grape, milder tart fruit. Taste is moderately strong tart but balanced with the barrel and sweet grape so not over the top. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, interesting. Aroma could mellow a bit but the flavor is pretty well balanced.

On tap in pub glass from the brewery. Appearance is clear, golden yellow with nice sparkle, thin ring of off-white head with good persistence. Aroma is barnyard, manure. Taste is lots of pilsner malts and late funk. Palate is light-to-medium bodied with smooth texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, something in the aroma makes me instinctively want to turn away (from an evolutionary perspective) but it's actually quite good.

Taster pour on tap at the brewery. Appearance is clear, very dark brown--like cola--with no discernible sparkle, thin, foamy beige head with excellent retention and light, soapy lacing. Aroma is strongly earthy and roasted malts. Taste is as aroma with light tartness. Palate is light bodied with thin texture, soft carbonation and finish as taste. Overall, a good representative of the style and good flavor for ABV, though I prefer a sweeter stout.

Taster pour on tap at the brewery. Appearance is cloudy yellow with no discernible sparkle, thin ring of off-white head with trace sparkle. Aroma is mild lemon citrus and fruit. Taste is as aroma, somewhat astringent, tangy, grainy, mild grapefruit. Palate is light-to-medium body with thin texture, soft carbonation and dry, grainy finish as taste. Overall, not quite as fruity/juicy as advertised and grainy backbone more apparent.

On tap at Beer Shop NYC. Pours hazy orange brown. Apricot, cereal, sharp, lots of funk, little vinegar, boysenberry, small touch of umami smoke stuff in amongst the funky finish. Big carbonation in a full body. Nice.
