Clear copper-amber brown color, creamy steady off-white head. Nutty hoppy aroma, slightly metallic. Watery, smooth mouthfeel - similar to Kilkenny. Nutty hoppy, ashy flavor. Some faint late bitterness. Hoppy water it is.

12oz bottle pours gold with creamy lasting off white head. The aroma is sweet sweet malts, a bit of spicy noble hops and minerals. The flavor reminds me of a Bass. This beer isn’t as malty sweet though. I like the better balance between the sweet and grainy malts and the spice-floral noble hops. Above average carbonation keeps the flavors bright and at the forefront.

Draught. Faint aroma of nuts and malt. Malty flavour with much sweetness. Not much finish, a little sugar.

The one and only that is everywhere! Had this many times before but I will rate this one as I drink it. 12 oz clear bottle. I used to think of this as a ’dark’ beer in my earlier days. But that was before I was exposed to some of the stouts. I view this as pretty clear and light brown. It is not quite as orange as it pictured here. Nice rapidly fading tan head. The beer looks a bit darker after it has been poured into a mug. Nice but not constant larger bubbles rising up thru the brew. Roasty initial flavor. Almost as roasty as beers that are much darker. If I was blindfolded I would be imagining a much darker brew. The carbonation is slightly tingly average. Some alky hints and there is background hoppyness also. Much malt an finish bordering on bitterness. Finish starts acceptable, then peaks to an alky maltyness and finally lingers for about 3 mins afterwards. This is definitely very strong ale-ish tho the alky content would make you think otherwise. Reminds me of a moretti la rosa.

Bottle. Brown body with a beige head which rapidly faded; aromas of malt and caramel; sweet, nutty taste with a touch of spiciness leaving a dry malty finish.

Draught, announced as cask, 3.8 % ABV Small, very dense & on-cask like head, dark red-amber beer. Served to cold too be smelt. CASK, they said? Sweet, meaty esters; young beer, flavour of grass / garden herbs. Warming up, almondy. Light body and that’s putting it mildly. Poor beer, certainly not worthy of cask.

A splendid and drinkable brown ale. It has very little fizz to it as far as I can tell, as I have had it both from the bottle and on tap. It starts off with a nice little sweet and nutty taste, which then at the end of the sip has a little tinge of alcohol. Kind of like malt liquor in that regard, but obviously bettter tasting. Wish that they would sell in pints instead of 12 oz in America.

Bottle, pours brown with a white head. Great representation of a brown ale. Certainly there are better brown’s out there, but none as widely distributed as this one.

Half pint on draught at the Queens an hour before kick-off at Boylen Ground between Hammers and Newcastle. Amber in colour. More or less missing head. Creamy and smooth mouthfeel. High level of carbonation. Some hints of burnt malt and caramel. Little more than a thirst-quencher (17.09.2006).
