Description
On St. Patrick’s Day 2007, Double Mountain Brewery & Taproom was unveiled to a thirsty public. Double Mountain was founded by Matt Swihart and Charlie Devereaux with a clear mission: make great beer for craft beer fans! Ours is a “brewers’ brewery”, with an uncompromising focus on beer quality. From the beginning, our goal was to make beers that we liked to drink. All of our beers are served up unfiltered and long-aged, to deliver maximum flavor and character. The beers can be very complex and assertive, but with the ultimate goal of proper balance. We aim to satisfy both the hardcore aficionados and the more casual craft beer fan, all in the same glass.

2014-01-09, bottle from Legacy, Vancouver, 7-4-7-4-14=36
Cloudy deep blond color, too much; medium sized compact head. The aroma is rustic, but there are some citrusy hops, a vegetable impression. Good body strength; malt flavor, with a touch of wheat, very light cereals; quite strong spicy yeast, and strong bitterness; hop resins; it has very light residual sweetness, and final astringency.
Dirty but good.

2012-07-27, draught at Brouwer’s Café, Seattle, 6-4-7-3-13=33
Hazy amber color, with small creamy head. The aroma is not impressive, there is some white grape juice and pond water. The caramel flavor is quite good, it has a strong bitterness level, but not the expected qualities of the hops; nevertheless the final burns on the tongue, from some hop resins.
A solid brew that doesn’t impress.

Tap at OBF. Pours dark brown with beige bubbles. Aromas of dark fruit and Belgian yeast/spice. Full bodied. Flavor is dark fruit, lighter fruity esters, treacle and arguably kandi. There’s no heat. It’s high on sweet but there’s lots of other things countering that. Sort of a baltic porter that went Belgian. Very tasty.

Sampled on tap at PIB, pours a hazy golden with a small white head. Aroma of Belgian yeast and light fruits. Flavour of light fruits, booze, Belgian yeast - ABV is well-hidden - seems unnecessarily high though as the flavour is quite bland. Pretty light-bodied and thin for 8%. Not the most complex either. Decent.

Sampled on tap at PIB, pours a dark brown / near-black with a medium tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, bourbon barrels, lots of fruity notes, slight rubbery notes. Flavour is intense, a mix of many different styles working well together, with roasted malt, dark fruits, tart berries, and bourbon barrels. The blend is expertly done. ABV is very well-hidden at 12%. Excellent sipper.

Sampled on tap at PIB, pours a cloudy yellow with an orange tint and a small white head. Aroma of lightly sour fruits, and fuzzy stone fruits (like peach). Flavour of light fruits, vanilla, lots of tartness, though not as much as the Devil's Kriek - just enough sweetness to balanced. Decent, but not as complex or enjoyable as DK.

Sampled on tap at PIB, pours a pinkish red / amber with a small beige head. Aroma of sour cherries above anything, some sweetness shines through as well. Flavour of tart cherries, more sourness, and yet more sourness - very intense - not much else to describe. The sourness is very puckering, lingering on the finish. Definitely delivering its promise. Good in small doses.

Good looking draught beer. Not like an IPA, Soapy. This was the most memorable for me, the soapiness. It tasted like dish soap, it had texture like dish soap. It is not like a good beer.

Draught. Dark red black with thin white head. Earthy sweet aroma. Flavour is like candy, but not too sweet. Big bodied, Fruity finish.
