(500ml bottle from 4th and 7, Toronto) Pours deep brown with a small dark tan cap and a litle lace. Aroma is lots of crushed fresh peanuts dominating proceedings, some soft semi-sweet chocolate and vanilla florals, sweet caramelized sugars and a bare hint of roast. Flavour is very sweet and burnt sugar-heavy, malts are not heavily roasted and have a lot of sweet dark fruit and jam character, ample crushed peanut dusty earthiness for sure, chocolate is pretty restrained, some milky creamy vanilla vibes in the back, peanut and dark fruit malts are dominant throughout the sip though. Finish remains sweet, booze largely hidden. Light to medium-bodied, somewhat creamy. Nice peanut character but I didn't love the sweet fruity sugars; a richer, more choc-heavy malt body would have made it more peanut butter cup for me. Still a nice super-sweet pastry rendition.

Poured from 500mL bottle. Near black with dissipating off-white head. Maple syrup, molasses, slight sourness, hint of bourbon. Very average.

Dark, has some haze. It's tart, which isn't quite right. I still get maple on this, and some bourbon, but it does seem like something's gone off. I'm not sure when it was made but the tartness doesn't add value and I don't think it should be there.

500mL bottle, pours black with a medium tan head. Nose brings out cocoa, banana, vanilla and a bit of spicy pepper. Flavour has... wait a minute... quite a bit of banana, with gentle habanero, and a touch of spiciness. Is this really not the banana version? It tastes like it, plus a touch of pepper. This is a head-scratcher. Really tastes like a banana-forward beer. Not really a fan. This black is not beautiful.

(500ml bottle from 4th and 7, Toronto) Pours pitch black with a few stray deep tan bubbles, no real head or lace. Aroma is initially heavy on umami, like kalamata olives aged in bourbon barrels; with some air that fades into more earthy coffee with a clear green pepper tone. Maybe there's some Brett in here giving that leathery umami as well? Flavour is quite different from the nose, sweet and creamy, overt lactose over dark caramel/molasses malts, earthy coffee, moderate bourbon, vanilla/milk chocolate accents, sweetness all the way into the finish, earthy coffee/vanilla/coconut aftertaste. Medium-bodied but very creamy; almost flat. Odd duck; I didn't get the strong Brett or bacterial infection some people complain about. The nose was a little unexpected though, and the overall package rather sweet.

Bottle: Poured a reddish color ale with a small foamy head with no retention and no lacing. Aroma of tart notes with some cherry and oak notes and faint Cognac notes. Taste is a mix of tart notes with some cherry and oak notes with some faint Cognac notes and light acidic notes. Body is about average for style with good carbonation. Enjoyable Flanders red but not sure Cognac add a whole lot to this beer.

(500ml bottle shared by Luc, thanks a lot!) Pours black with a thick pale tan head. Notes are nice rich burnt sugar base, toffee and light molasses coupled with some moderate chocolate, with lovely balanced banana and creamy coconut, vanilla floral accents, all the flvaours are very present but none of the adjuncts overwhelm, the warming lightly spiced fruity rum barrel builds through the sip and reaches maximum at the finish but isn't overpowering either. Nice lingering banana/coconut floral fruit in the aftertaste. Medium-bodied, slick, slightly creamy carbonation, alcohol mostly hidden. Definitely has the feel of a late night tropical cocktail, if that makes sense, dark but still exotic. Really nice stout! I am glad I had the chance to try this barrel club release.
