Bottle shared by Marcus. Instantly disappearing head. Really dark brown pour. Aroma is mostly rye. Med body. Flavor is sweetish chocolate with lots of rye and a little heat. It is delicious.

Shared a 22oz bottle with some friends. Poured extremely dark, with a touch of ruby tones to it when held up to the light. Head was medium-tan, compact. Aroma was dark caramel, dried grains (raisins) and a touch of brown sugar with a noted hop bitterness to it. The flavor is quite similar, with notes of brown sugars, caramel, dried fruits coming through especially. Alcohol is extremely warm, but no where near as hot as I imagined it could be - this one would have aged quite well if I hadn’t cracked into it so soon.

Bomber. Pours a dark brown that lets reddish highlights shine around the edges. Head is alright at first, but dies down and leaves very little on the sides of the glass or on the surface. Aromas have quite a bit of chocolate and cream with a heavy dose of malt, but the malt comes across as rye and oat... not sure if that’s in there, but that’s what I’m picking up. Flavor starts off like a grain silo (or the dust that poofs out of your grain when you pour it into a new container while homebrewing), but then the chocolate takes over just for a bit until the chile heat starts to point to the finish. It finishes with a well-balanced spicy heat, but the malt bill that leads to the finish line just isn’t for me. Too sweet, too something...

12 oz bottle. Pours extremely deep brown to black with a light tan head. Cocoa and dark fruit aromas, molasses with some hops as well. Flavor has some cocoa, coffee, touch of smoke, molasses, against a background of nonspecific hops. Kind of a light take on an imperial stout; this doesn’t quite seem like a 10% beer.

Bottle. Pours a black color with asmall off-white head. Has a roasted malty licorice aroma with weak bourbon hints. Fruity sweetish malty hoppy caramel flavor. Has a slightly roasted malty hoppy bitter caramel finish.

Bottled. An amber beer with an off-white head. The aroma has notes of hops, malt, alcohol, and whiskey. The flavor is sweet with notes of alcohol, malt, whiskey, and hops, leading to a dry finish. Too much alcohol for my liking.

Bottle @ Odense Summer Tasting, 2011. Pours black with a small off white head. Sweet nose of caramel, alcohol and oak with a hint of whiskey. Smooth and full bodied. Well made. Sticky . .

Very oaky aroma with caramel and walnut overtones. Mahogany with medium tan head. Flavor is still quite oaked, charred. Prunes are also present. Vanilla surges in at midpalate. Very pecan in the end. Full body. Wonderful transitions, full of flavor, decent balance. Alcohol present but not overbearing. I haven’t checked the ratings of others yet, but I have to see this a very well made beer. Not quaffable, but a damn fine beer.

5ooml bottle split with Ann. I’m pretty sure I had this on tap and rated it as well..Deep, glowing amber-brown color. Thin, frothy beige head. Has really mellowed out in the 8 months of closet life. The juice stands firmly, with some creamy, sugary dark brown chocolate notes. An odd creature certainly, but not so awkward in it’s mix...the flavors do sort of complement each other. A little light in body, somewhat fluffy and watery. Could have used some more rich Dubbel or Doppelbock tones..maybe the grape juice covers them up. Some pleasant dark fruit tones I suppose. OK.
