Bottle. Beer of the month club. Clear deep amber color. Aroma of malt, caramel, light toastiness, light vegetal notes and a faint metallic hints. Sweetish caramelly flavor with toasty notes and a light metallic hint. Light to medium-bodied. Boring but kinda drinkable.

Cloyingly sweet aroma. No date code punched onthe label, conterfiet? Taste is also quite sweet, more so than other fests. Yes, taste is a little old almost like its 2011 or older vintage. Really comes across like more than 5%. If you look for it, it does have a faint tint of wildness in there. Could be a tad easier on that old lager personality, wew, sweet thing in there but not in a pleasant way. Fricken hat on the rabit goose thing. What a name. Including the word the, like WTF? Yes, difficult at times on the back of the throat. CO2 is quite muted, barely detectable if any. edicinal feel on the finish. Not impressed.

Bottle. Very dark maroon brown color, medium tan head. Aroma of roasted chestnuts, burnt espresso, dark bitter cocoa. Taste is big and roasty, with dark fruits, chocolate, coffee. Nice character and complexity.

A reddish brown marzen with a thin mocha head. In aroma, a nice nutty malt with light cinnamon. In mouth, a nice nutty malt with light cinnamon, nice and smooth. On tap at Snallygaster DC, Oct. 13 2012.

Bottle from mixmasterob. Pours quite black/brown with a rapidly disappearing dark tan head. Aroma is treacle with something suggesting anise (but turns out to be coffee!). Med + body. Flavor is very dark malt with treacle and a flavor that is very coffee. No chocolate. Very good.

Bottle from Total Wines, Sterling VA. Dark brown with a slight, tan head. Sweetish aroma of chocolate and dark fruits with a touch of roasted malts. Flavour had milk chocolate, caramel and coffee, with a dryish finish. Enjoyable.

12 ounce bottle. Deep mahogany red/brown colo. Small beige head. Rich dark fruit malt nose. I smell prunes, soy sauce, burnt wood and autumn leaves. First sip brings notes of burnt sugar, licorice, spruce and wood. Complex bittersweet malt and hops in midtaste and finish. Very noticable alcohol taste. Sticky treacle aftertaste lies long on the palate. This is a big brew and very tasty. Worth seeking out.

Bottle. Pours a clear deep amber with a light brown head that dissipates to the edges and laces slightly. Aroma has a good amount of sweet grain with a bit of dark grain and some earthy tobacco underlying. Flavor is smooth with sweet grains with a bit of tobacco and earthy grain.

Aroma has rich caramel notes with hints of toffee and honey. Some alcohol present in aroma as well as a touch of earthy woodsy hops. As it warms a fruitiness becomes more apparent. Pours a nice amber-copper with a small off white head. The taste is well...infected. It's a shame because there is a hint of the former beer behind the infection. The infection adds a major fruit note to the beer leaving it drinkable, but not a rich malty barleywine. The fruit is very grape-like The beer is also thinner than it otherwise should be. Overall, not bad for an infected barleywine but it would be much better if not infected. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
