This was a random Seijo Ishii find for about 400¥. I’m not sure but I think it’s to mark the start of 2024, the Year of the Dragon. Echigo Red Dragon IPA 5.5% Reddish amber color with a fantastic rocky dense beige foam. Piney caramel aroma, medium bodied and quite drinkable though the Neko ippiki was far superior. This is just ok.

Can from Seijo Ishii. Nice fruity hop nose, dry citrus, grapefruit, minerals like Simcoe, light tropical fruit, restrained malt. Pale gold, medium hazy, tall fine head. Tons of grapefruit in the flavor, crackery malt, some sweet orange, bit of pine, lightly dank. Works well overall. This isn't anything really special, but probably the best beer they have put out in ages.

Can from Urbansprawl. Orange amber with a full head. Aroma of fruity hop. Flavour is citrus and tropical, a little herb, solid bitter background.

Can at Mama Chang: pours light orange hazy with white head. Aroma is citrusy, barely any banana, some spice. Taste is lightly sweet, very mild hefe taste. Ok.

Can. Deep orange with a huge head. Citrus hop nose, funky tropical fruit, durian, bready but light malt. Rich for 5%, hoppy, spritzy, great hop flavors of citrus and tropical fruit. Best new beer from Echigo in ages. I would try this again.

Echigo White Ale with Lemon & Ginger 5% Another Seijo Ishii find, this has a nice soft ginger and pale wheat malts aroma. Medium bodied but very dry. It is light and zesty ginger. For a beer with ginger this is pretty balanced.

Taster showing pale gold with a finger of clean white foam.
The nose shows moderately intense and soft notes of pineapple, kiwi, and pine.
The palate is well carbonated and medium bodied. Pineapple forward with a light malt backbone followed by a gently sharp bitterness.

35cl can, stating 6% AVB, pours with a nice crystal clear deep gold body that supports a lasting near white head of foam. The aroma offers up a modest level of vague to spicy hoppiness as well as malts, caramel malts and then a toffee sort of caramel sensation. The taste does indeed seem malt forward as I get caramel malt sweetness leading to a soft sweet mild kettle caramelization like sensation toward the finish. The hops in here are putting up a fight with some firm spicy to vaguely floral hop bitterness. Yeah. More sips reveals the hops are possibly winning the flavour battle here. Fun beer.
