Bright copper with a medium head. Full biscuity malt aroma bordering on worty. Medium bitterness, again a big, warm malt. Low hop expression outside of the bitterness. Some butter creeping in as it warms up. Echigo was the first craft brewer in Japan and this tastes like the first IPA in Japan. This is so old school you need to listen to Flower Travellin’ Band while drinking it.

Bottled from Katagiri Grocery on 59th st. Dark with minor league head. Smell was sweet and malty. Some bitter to finish. Pretty decent, better than most Asiatic stouties.

Can. Golden. Nice hop aroma, orange and grapefruit, some tropical fruit, slightly pepper, very clean malts. Crisp, clean flavor, lightly malty, very hoppy, lots of citrus, moderately sweet, with a peppery, bitter finish. Well done.

Can. Dark golden color, clear. Light citrus hops in the nose, honey malts, a bit of rice. Flavor is sweet malts and rice, honey notes, biscuits, citrus hops. Nothing wrong with it, but pretty boring.

Pours a cloudy yellow body and a firm, dense white head with good retention. Aroma's: wheaty and fruity, with some banana. Retronasal there's some clove too. Flavour is light sweet and light wheaty sour. Light bodied, not too thin. Light bitterness in the finish. Fairly true to the style.

Can, it's actually called just Red Ale, but it also has 5.5% ABV so I'm assuming it's this. Pours a deep amber, almost brown body and a dense light beige head with a little bit retention. Aroma's: caramel malts, fruit. Retronasal it follows this, with some rye bread. Flavour is light bittersweet, toast, fruit. Light medium bodied. Finishes light moderate bitter.

Can. Medium gold. Nose is citrus and some grass, biscuit malt and light caramel. Flavor is sweet malt, some caramel, grassy and citrus hops. Body is on the light side. More like an APA than a true IPA I would say. Nice enough but one is enough.

Can. Nose is banana and clove, wheat biscuits. Definitely using weizen yeast. Flavor similar. I get just a touch of mikan and spice. Doesn’t really live up to the name.
