Description
In August of 2005, the first jack hammer went into the ground in the empty warehouse in Pleasantville, New York, that was to become the living dream of our founder Scott Vaccaro. We brewed our first batch of beer in December of 2005. In December of 2011 we moved to Elmsford, finished construction of our new brewery, brewed our first batch of beer, and slowly shut down our old location. In 2014 we decided that it was time, after 9 years of making sour and wild ales, to take it to the next level by opening our new sour ale production wing, lovingly dubbed the “Fermento Funk Facility”.

Hazy red-amber color; creamy head. A hint of oak and vanilla in the aroma. Medium body, with a fresh caramel flavor, milky, quite sweet, lightly oaked, correct bitterness, warming alcohol in the end; not complex enough. Very pleasant.

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of kmweaver. Slightly hazy, orangey brown with a beige head. Aroma of fruit, a little wood and a whiff of yeast. Full body with rich, sweet, roasted malts. Lightly vinous with a little overripe fruit. Even notes of sherry. Subdued bitterness. Another elegant offering from Captain Lawrence. 301107

(Bottle 75 cl) Courtesy of kmweaver. Hazy golden with an off-white head. Very fresh, piney aroma. Medium body with lightly sweet, fruity accents and a base of pale malts. Discreet yeasty touches but otherwise dominated by excellent aroma hops. Distinct alcohol in the finish. Excellent and a very different take on a Tripel. 301107

Dark brown pour with a thin fleeting tan head. Big malt and alcohol nose. Lots of dried fruits in the flavor, accompanied by malts and alcohol in a complex blend. Nice one.

Courtesy Dickinsonbeer. Thanks Paul. Draft Version. Pours clear copper with weak white head. The aroma is very fruity and floral with a sweet sugary orange juice soda note and flower pedals. The taste seems a bit thin (due to the low carbonation) and earthy right off followed by caramelized malts, floral hop bitterness and citrus orange to nearly lemonade (but not tart or sweet). As the taste progresses the bitterness grows as does the earthiness. Interesting interpretation of the style. It leaves mild citrus hop bitterness into the after taste.

Bottle: Poured a medium brown color ale with a big foamy head with some good retention and some lacing. Aroma consist of sweet Belgian malt with some dry fruits characteristics such as dry figs and plums. Taste of sweet Belgian malt with some notes of dry fruits characteristics. Body is full with a creamy texture and some pretty good carbonation. I thought this was a bit too boozy overall to really enjoy on a regular basis thought.

I have tried this 2 times now, both on cask and about 4 months apart. The first cask was at Barcade and it was an unblended barrel, which tasted more like Bourbon then beer. Really wasn’t enjoyable but I figured if I wait it would be better at a later time and this was the time. First drink at the Brazen Head Cask festival. Pours completely black with a strong foamy off white head, that never goes away. Casks have a tendency to make beers look better. Aroma is very fruity alcohol but not strong on any of the alcohol just the fruity aspects of it. And there is some faint roast. Taste is light chocolate and grainy flavor. There is an alcohol heft but no heat. Very quaffable with its under-carbonated and velvet-y mouthfeel. It really just is so smooth on the throat. Leaves an aftertaste of granny smith apples.
cask, half pint glass.
