Sampled at the Bocktown in a frog green glass from a bottle. Looks pretty dark. Smels like a hopped stout, quite interesting. This tastes like somebody mixed IPA with impy stout. If you are fond of these styles, go for it. Difficult for a lager lover to appreciate. Yew, bitter lingering medicine, glad this session is over. Certainly has less manners than Yuengling’s black and tan. Better seek this out if yer into IPA and brutal stout.

Had this again, but it smelled beter....old rating - Sampled at the Bocktown in a frog greenglass from a bottle. BORIS; Bodacious, Oatmeal, Russian, Imperial, Stout...and it is. Black and relatively viscous, somewhat like used shovelhead oil. Has a pretty good aroma, smells more like a sweet stout. Roasty and attractive to the olfactory. First taste however erases any inkling that this is sweet. It is bitter and intimidating with barely any carbonation. Rude and crude. Perfect example of this dreaded style. Leaves a bitter lingering finish that is hard to forget.

Sampled at the Bocktown from a bottle in a frog green glass. Appears to be a little darker than your typical pale yellow lager, I think. Aroma is all IPA; floral hops and pine citrus. Lots of chewing grapefruit rind flavor. IPA is not my cup of tea but I am glad to have had a chance to try such a good IPA. Finish is bitter medicine, some body get me a chaser of old heathen.

On tap at the Bocktown. Rather sweet attractive candy aroma. Foamy head subsides after a few. Orangy red pale lager color and appearance. Faily strong starting alky blast to the taste buds, immediately numbed. Decent tingly carbonation for a big beer. Not as smooth as I like them but better than most strong american belgie beer immoes. Mouth coating liquor palate. One of the better Belgie imitations. Not in yer face like many american belgies. Finish is lingering alky. A little too much for my girlie lager taste buds. However, a good example of the style.

Sampled at the Bocktown, in a frog green colored sample glass. Clear and filtered, rather pale yellow, I think. Barely any hint of wheat olfactory, rather transparent. Initial spicy and wheatish taste impact. Also carries a low medium bitter intrinsic flavor, most likely because it’s over 5%. Slightly unrefined, anti-smoooth. Decent carbonation. Finish is mildly annoying lingering medicine, but in a good way.

Deep orange coloured body with an amber feeling to it and a perfect-sized off-white head. Aroma of fresh hops, grapefruit, flowers, fresh cut grass and some more hops! Medium-bodied; Short and sharp hoppiness up front with some malt behind it and a perfect amount of sugars following up for the kicker. Aftertaste shows that good level of hops tapped onto a good malt backbone. Overall, a good powerful IPA that lasts and shows fresh and potent hops throughout. I sampled this 65 cL bottle purchased today at West Lakeview Liquors in Chicago, Illinois on 02-November-2007.

This is really good. Reading the name and seeing black and tan, I wasn’t expecting much, but this one really works. It is well described as a very hoppy stout. Lots of hops in the aroma and flavor. Very smooth on the palate, with a thick and heavy mouthfeel. Some roasted malt and oatmeal in the flavor.

This is good. It is a very sweet interpretation of the style. The aroma has Belgian yeast and malt. Lots of sugar in the flavor with a touch of fruit. Gold color and moderate carbonation. As good as the flavor it, this beer is lacking complexity. I would describe this as a Belgian quad in the vein of Avery Reverend.

Thanks to Lowe1983 for the bottle. Dark caramel with a decent-sized orangeish head. Mmmm, hops! Citrus, grapefruit, floral, some pine- intense. Also a solid background of caramel malts. Very well blended aroma. Powerful hop flavor similar to the aroma. Grapefruit, citrus, pine and floral notes, with that caramel backbone carrying the flavors through to the end. Finish is long and bitter, with a touch of sweet malts. Smooth, dry body. This is a first rate IIPA from a brewery that is fast becoming one of my favorites.

While I tend to associate double IPAs with a strong malt backbone, this one is 90 percent about the hops with minimal maltiness. In fact, there’s so much hop character to this, that if you are looking for a lesson in American hops, this is a good place to start. Aroma is full of citrus and pine. Notes of grapefruit, peach and orange. The pour was copper and slightly hazy with a small, off-white head. The flavor is moderately to heavily bitter and slightly sweet. Moderately acidic for a dry finish. Medium to full body results in some stickiness. Moderate carbonation. Very enjoyable.
