14/12/2025. Bottle from RiteWay Food Market, Road Town, British Virgin Islands. Enjoyed on Marella Discovery 2 during the sea day voyage between Bonaire and Curacao. Pours almost black with a creamy beige head. Rich dark chocolate malt aroma, roasted, with liquorice, and dried fruits. Quite sweet, almost condensed milk like, with moderate roasted bitterness and very slight spiced notes. Full bodied, smooth, gentle carbonation. A nice sweet night cap. Enjoyed it.

284ml bottle. Pours very dark brown with a large head. Aroma is boozy, sticky raisin and molasses. Taste has woody raisin and toffee to start with molasses on the finish.

Bottle from Sainsbury's, Wycombe. Deep mahogany with a beige to tan head. Rich chocolate up front, then muscovado sugar, a touch of liquorice and wood and some spice. After an excellent start it faded a little and felt a little thin for the strength, but I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Impressive stuff considering the very low price point (think it was only £1.70) - this is better than many craft beers of two or three times the price. Also liked that it was sold in a smaller size bottle (284ml) - I'd like to see more strong beers sold in smaller volume cans/bottles like this, I really don't need or want 440ml of triple IPAs and big imperial stouts.

Old rating from 02-07-16 - A gift from a friend who visited the Caribbean. 250ml bottle. Named XXtra, but I guess this is one & the same. It pours a very dark brown near black colour with a beige head. Aromas of dark fruits, dark chocolate, nuts & sweet roasted malt. Tastes of dark fruits, chocolate, burnt coffee, nutty caramel, tar, sweet malt & alcohol.
