Description
The brewery was set up at the end of 2004 in a beautiful farmhouse called “L’Olmaia” in Val D’Orcia, near Siena, Tuscany, initially as a small firm producing up to 300 litres per batch.
In 2009 it was relocated a few kilometers to the east in the area of Sant’Albino, near Montepulciano, where the products could be sold directly to the public. Throughout the year we produce 6 types of beer, plus some special seasonal beers, all of which are strictly unpasteurized, unfiltered and re-fermented, both in the keg and in the bottle. The production plant was built, according to our production needs, by the company Tefo of Parma, and it now has a production capacity of 2,500 litres per batch thanks to 4 cylindroconical fermentation tanks with a capacity of 2,500 litres and 2 with a capacity of 1,500 litres.
Inside the Brewery you can find the Tap Room with 6 beers on tap, cold cuts, cheeses and bottled beers.

Flaske 750ml fra Vinmonopolet, Bestillingsutvalget. Fellesinnkjøp med Rune. Delt med ham, Snegurochka og TheCellarer på Nerstranda 7 Aug 14. Mørk amber. Uklar med tydelige partikler. Lavt filmskum. Beskjeden syrlig fruktaroma. Smaken er plommer og syrlige epler. Sikkert god til visse matretter. Veldig uklar siste kvelling.

Bottled 750ml. -from Rockmark Zagreb. Murky orange coloured, huge white to off-white head, not so pleasant strong yeasty fruity nose. Sweetish malty, light fruity and discreet hoppy with hint of spices in rather bitter finish. Pretty messy brew and a way too expensive (almost 10€ for the bottle at the book shop).

0.75l, around 9€ at the Rockmark, Croatia’s first "music library", in Zagreb. Mmmkaaay. Shared with Ogi & Maja of course. Opened with a huge bang & gushed a little (yeah, apparently an Olmaia thing). Daaark amber body, murky, with a huuuge lasting off white head that stayed there forever. Creamy, sweetish malty aroma, apricot/peach & dust, tiny bready note... humm.... Somewhat empty taste driven by a herbal hopiness, ends "stupidly" bitter. Ok, smooth malty background. Overpriced, unbalanced, too simple, and yet not entirely bad I guess. I can’t think of a person to recommend it to though.

Courtesy of & thanks to Kraddel. 75 cl. bottle sampled @ “Poppyland Sucks Tasting” @ the Barely legal tasting room. Hazy oily orange with only some bubbles on top. Smells quite oily, herbal bitter, touch herbs, medicinal hops, bit watery. Tastes bitter herbal, touch alcohol, oily some watery sugar, sweetish leading into herbal and touch medicinal hop finish. Somewhat watery body. Nothing in the way of balance or structure but it is enjoyable.

At the Hair of the Dog mini-tasting. Served in a snifter. This Italian dark beer pours a dark brown/black with a foamy beige head. The nose is malty chocolate, savory with a slightly chalky nose. The taste is roasty, chocolate, milk chocolate pretty good. Solid but not so remarkable.

Bottle from Yamaichi. Fresh, brilliant hoppy nose, lemon, grass, country white bread, light Belgian yeastiness. Brilliant, cloudy golden color with a high, fine, pillowy head. Very impressed so far. Dry and minerally, great Belgian farmhouse character, some biscuity malts, lemon, hay, light bitterness. Excellent stuff. Great light clean body. Dry, mineral finish. Very interesting and delicious.
