Description
In 1999 the brewery was established in the ''Commanderie van St. Jan'' in Nijmegen. This 12th century monastery has since been our production location and also the place where beer has been drunk most for years. In Brouwerscafé De Hemel, the 12 taps are always filled with different brewes from Hemel. Beer production takes place in the cellars of the Commanderie.

Bottle @ Tasting. Clear yellow color, small white head. Smell and taste malts, herbs and spices, orangepeel. Way too much herbs and spices. Don’t like it. Average body and carbonation.

Tap at Deano’s monthly tasting, September. Poured a hazy light amber with a thin white head. The aroma is fruity with malt. The flavour is weak bitter with with some zesty fruit and yeast on the watery palate. Not the worst beer I’ve had but not the best either!

Bottle shared at Bruce’s - London. Many thanks to Jack for snagging this 2009 vintage - I’m sure he had to jump through hoops to get Kris to sell it to him. It’s a boozy beer, lots of heavy malts, caramel. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish, further rich semi-dark malt character, dark and ripened fruits. Fair.

Tap @ Drie Dorstige Herten, which was 7% alcohol. Hazy amber pour with a short slight off-white head. Typical de Hemel aroma, which comes from their house yeast. Slight spicy and with some orange and tangerine notes. Soft hoppy, some caramel malt. Slight sweet in taste, soft bitterness. Fits in the range of beer de Hemel makes and although they share some similarities between them, I quite enjoy them.
