Description
In 1999 the brewery was established in the ''Commanderie van St. Jan'' in Nijmegen. This 12th century monastery has since been our production location and also the place where beer has been drunk most for years. In Brouwerscafé De Hemel, the 12 taps are always filled with different brewes from Hemel. Beer production takes place in the cellars of the Commanderie.

On tap at Arendsnest as Rafael Lentebier. Slightly hazy amber colour, thin white head. Aroma is sweet, honey, malts, fruity and floral. Flavour is soft, honey sweetness, malty, light alcoholic, soft bitter finish. Very smooth and creamy mouthfeel, medium to fullbodied. This was more like a sweet heller bock than an IPA to me. Really good beer.

2005 11.2 oz bottle from Liquid Solutions. Nose of plums, brown sugary sweetness, caramel, and a light vanilla note. Clear cherry amber with a small beige head. Flavor is fairly light prune notes, with alcohol, and light sweetness. Finish is alcohol warmth. Decent but I can get better much more cheaply.

Bottle: Clear, shestnut-amber coloured, small off-white head with a good lace; sweetish caramelly-nutty nose with a good dash of smoked malt; relatively light bodied for a beer of 6.5%, moderate to solid sweetish-bitter flavour; lingering hoppy-woody-smoky finish with a caramelly "tail". Good smoked Bier......

Bottle 2005: Poured a hazy brown with a light head. The aroma is light alcohol, honey, spice, and dark fruit. The taste is fruit, honey, but not that overpowering alcohol you would thing at that high ABV.
