Description
Conceived as a ‘nomadic’ project, The Beak has spent several years creating unfiltered, seasonally-inspired beer with friends at some the greatest UK breweries, including North Brew Co, Partizan, Beavertown, Burning Sky and Northern Monk. We've now laid roots in our hometown of Lewes in East Sussex, where we've built a 15-BBL neighbourhood brewery and taproom with a mixed-fermentation project and weekend street food canteen. Please come and say hi!

440ml can from Middle Farm, Firle, and shared in Kuala Lumpur. Poured a murky dark burgundy colour with little life. The aroma is red berry fruits. The flavour is moderate sour, with a smooth, rich, juicy tart raspberry, cherry, light vanilla palate. Full bodied with soft carbonation. Finally a fruited sour beer that isn’t sweet!

440 ml can from Middle Farm, Firle, and shared in Kuala Lumpur. Poured a hazy yellow golden colour with short-lived frothy white head and some clingy lace. The aroma is grainy, stone fruits, citrus. The flavour is moderate bitter, light sweet, with a crisp, fresh, juicy, mango, grassy, vinous, tart gooseberry, dry hop bitter palate. Medium bodied with average carbonation. Superb.

Tap. Chubby Seal, Holt, Norfolk. Hazy straw gold. Slim white foam. Thought this might be Nelson and Citra, turns out it’s Superdelic Simcoe and Citra. Anyhoo it’s got a ripe old fruity twang. Nice bitterness on it. Easy drinking gear. In fact I passed up a number of other ticks and had another of these.

Panda thanks to Cloin. A mild haze on this gold beer, small bubbly pale cream colour head. Light palate, a good fine minerally crispness. Slightly thin malts for a DIPA, but sweet enough. Cooling pine into candy fruits and mild Nelson grape. Mild watery citrus underneath. Light crispy finish. It's fine but, Beak regularly do much better than this.

Panda thanks to Cloin. Near clear gold beer, small bubbly pale cream colour head. Light palate, a good fine minerally carbonation. Thin bodied pale malts, sweet enough. Mosaic again dominates the hop profile. This latest batch seems to be particularly candy fruits forward. Cooling pine. Eclipse providing the back drop with aplomb. Slightly honeyish stone fruits. Light finish. Light and smashable.

440ml can. Pours black with a thin tan head. Aroma of chocolate, dates, vanilla. Taste is very sweet, chocolate, dates, vanilla, roast malts, treacle, molasses, a bit of alcohol warmth. Full bodied, smooth. Quite heavy on the dates/syrupy sweetness towards the end but really nice.

Can from House Of Trembling Madness. Black body with a tan head. No visible carbonation. Faint lacing. Aroma of date, prune and caramel. Flavour of tangy dates, prune and toffee. Medium body with a slick mouthfeel. Soft fizz. I think this is decent but they went a bit heavy handed with the date puree as it’s the dominating flavour.

Can. Hazy gold beer, small and short lived bubbly pale cream colour head. Light palate, a very mild dryness, good fine minerally carbonation. Smooth light pale malts, a nice light creamy sweetness. The hops, for me, are nicely dominated by Nectaron, slightly tangy but juicy and intense stone fruits. Nelson provides a good white wine brightness that goes with stone fruits like, well use your imagination of great couplings! Motueka really a bit part player here, mild key lime on the back end. I think it's absence would be slippery more noticeable than its presence. Light crispy finish brings a mild hop spice and shows rounded skunk. There is a light layer of cooling pine, because of course there is. Super duper DIPA.
