1.5 year old sample Gushing to huge, fluffy, very lightly yellowish head; fully hazy straw-gold beer, funky à souhait . Great, typically Brett nose, gueuze-like, grapefruit and citrus. Phenolic taste to the point of undrinkable, tar, christmas decoration from a siphon, solvent. Quite burning MF, medium bodied, thinner by the acids. Disappointing, I’m used to Bretts as guardians for good aging, but this is so phenolic I can hardly drink it.

Bottle at London Gathering Nov 05. Very dark cloudy brown beer with lasting beige head. Quite a nutty nose. Nice dark malts. Really quite a subtle beer for a big US beer. Slightly sweet in mouth and then good hop finish. Can’t really put my finger on why I liked this so much, but it was well made and the aromas and flavours and a good range of flavours that didn’t jump up and down all over the senses.

Cloudy golden amber. Very spicy aroma - slightly hot, flowery with dusty yeast and breadcrusty malt notes in the background. Flavor has an anise accent, firm breadcrusty maltiness whole grain style and a hint of nutmeg, clove. Fresh, vibrant with bracing spices, this is a pretty damn good saison.

Bottle Shared at the "Pitonka mini RB fest" Poures a hazy light amber, cider loking with a small white head and spotty lacing. Tart sour aroma with a musty aroma as well. Quite dry and almost bitter, much more so than the few other flemish’s I’ve had. Dry quick finish.

Bottled at RBESG (thanks to beerhandy for sending it!). Hazy amber. Plenty of lactic acid in the nose, then almondy Belgian style malt character takes over for a whilr until citric strikes back in the finish. Surprisingly light bodied. Fresh and complex, but Pizza Port’s very best sour ales are even better.

(Bottle 65 cl) Hazy orangey golden with a small, off-white head. Lightly sour nose. Weak flavour of caramel malt on a surprisingly thin body. Weak acidity but otherwise nothing much. Hugely disappointing. 120805

A hazy orange beer with a thin off-white head. The aroma is sweet slighlty malty and slihgtly alcoholic. The flavor is very malty and slightly sour - as if it has been wildfermented, this gives it a hint of grapefruit, and a dry end. The mouthfeel is very carbonated. From drinking it I’d categorize it as a Flemish Sour, not a Belgian Ale.

Bottle. Rich dark mahogony with a big light beige head. Sweet malt aroma with some yeastiness. Rich fruity (dates/raisins) flavor with malt leading into a nice yeasty spiciness and some chocolate. Alcohol definately there. Lingering sweetness. Missing some complexity.

Very dark brown colour. Large head. Sweet, malty, lightly spicy (nutmeg) aroma with hints of peach and splashes of vanilla. Warm, malty, soft but effervescent body. Dark fruity overtones and alcoholic undertones. Quite a bit of sugars remain, and the finish has a tart fruitiness that while not especially enjoyable on its own, does seem to indicate along with the residual sugars a half-finished beer. Which, of course, it is.

Draft. Amber beer with a big white head. Nice spicey/yeasty aroma - corriander, pepper and noble hops. great complex flavor - pepper, spice, lemon, malt, yeast, and an underlying sweetness. Not as dry as most saisons, but its very good. Had the bottled version too and it was a major disapointment in comparison - lemon flavor was over the top, and the complexity wasn’t there - would have been a low 3 in that rating.
