One of the highlights of the 2006 MN winter get together. I am surprised to see it clasified as Flemish sour; I thought it was a saison. The aroma is nice; barnyard and weird yeast, along with light vinegar. Cloudy orange and spritzy. Flavor is a little sour but not overwhelmingly so, and includes wheat and citrus as well. Perfect on the palate, excellent all around.

Cloudy dark red/copper in color, with foamy, lasting head - rich, full aroma of red wine, earth, chocolate, caramel, some vanilla, figs and raisins - soft carbonation on the palate, accentuating the full, creamy mouthfeel - not nearly as sweet as you’d expect from the style/alcohol content - actually quite dry and tannic at times, a definite red wine character - chocolate and caramel from the aroma make appearances - finishes mildly sweet, with a lingering, herbal dryness - quite different and pretty darn good - thanks to cquiroga - I can’t wait to try the Cuvee de Tomme.

Tap at Solona Beach - dark brown, malty and fruit aromas. Taste is sweet, with a nice hops balance and excellent dark fruity taste coming through. Pizza Port has done a nice job with this one and I wish I could get a hold of more. A fitting 100th rating...

tap at Solana Beach - Dark brown, looks nice. Light roasted malts dominate, giving a smooth, sweet flavor. It’s a bit thin, but quite tastey. Drink up!

tap in Solana Beach - This a good example of a pale ale, the pleasant hoppy bitterness nicely balanced with the malts. Soft carbonation, nice full mouthfeel. Nothing astonishing here, but I could easily sit back and enjoy a few pints.

Short lived, quite white head, gone in a few dozen seconds despite heavy pearling; hazy orange-golden beer. Leathery, barnyard-y, sulphury and citrussy (lemon & grapefruit) aromas, confluent to an overwhelming Brett-nose. Another one! I take back everything I said about California & Brettanomyces when rating the Mo Betta Bretta . This is great - another truly gueuze-like beer from the other side of the Northern Hemisphere. Little bit of raw mushrooms, citrus (especially lime peel and some lemonjuice) as flavours. No recognisable lactic acid, tannines are however obvious - but I cannot call its character woody, despite the name. Superbly refreshing, quite carbonated, equal to gueuze (especially unfiltered De Troch comes to mind) or Berliner Weisse. Dry-out effect. Equals a lot of good gueuzes. Progress in this part of the world truly bowls me over - amazing, Tomme. Big, big thanks to Olivier for bringing this superb present, and MartinT for keeping it for me.

Thanks to bu11zeye for this hand-marked 750 mL bottle, #48. Hazy amber-orange body, thin creamy beige head. Strong canned pineapple aroma- this must be a house characteristic as I distinctly remember the same aroma in their SPF 45. Tart, sour, and funky, with butterscotch candies and spice. Tart body, with the same notes of pineapple juice, butterscotch, spice (ester-heavy), more sour than sweet, with a spicy finish. Crisp, medium-bodied. Unique interpretation, with a strong pineappley character that is probably a turn-off or turn-on depending on the taster.

Bottle via trade with Markus (bu11zeye); many thanks! Deep charcoal-brown body, thick, puffy tan head, creamy and persistent. Fruity, sweet, roasty aroma with notes of plum, molasses, and roasted malts. The flavor was pretty much everything expected from an Imperial Stout, in nice balance, with a tart fruity beginning (plum, other dark fruits, brown sugar, soy), chocolate, coffee (although subdued), and big roasted malts in the finish. Earthy, somewhat bitter hops subdued by the big malts. The palate is very reminiscent of a Belgian ale, with the smooth, silky, tart body and tight, crisp carbonation. Fruitier and a bit sweeter than most Imperial Stouts with a more subtle hops profile. Excellent, complex, rich. An Imperial Stout that breaks the familiar mold.

(Bottle 75 cl) Unclear orangey golden with a small, white head. Yeasty, spicy nose. Lots of sweet malt. Spicy, gingery notes and a touch of citrus. Short, dry hoppiness in the finish. 031205

Bottle. Quite clear, dark golden colour. Hop aromatic. Flavour has some yoghurt, and a little metal. Otherwise malty and fruity.
