A small bottle, random pick up, from the off-licence opposite Jing Mei fire station. Aroma: very inviting 1960s-era liquorice. Appearance: opaque cola, negligible tan lacing. Palate: medium-bodied and oily on the tongue, softish carbonation; finish is very well-roasted and lasting. Taste: acrid, borderline charred; I don’t know if the Chinook hops is a good idea. Some pastry or butter flavour would redeem this beer, but as it stands, apart from the aroma, it’s borderline unpleasant.

330ml bottle from Benny’s Place, Kuala Lumpur. Poured a clear almost black colour with a mostly lasting frothy off white head. The aroma is roasty, creamy, nutty, boozy. The flavour is moderate sweet and liquorice bitter, with a smooth, rich, roasty, earthy, light herbal, nutty pecan, boozy liquorice bitter palate. Over medium bodied with soft carbonation. Not the best De Molen impy I’ve ever had, but far from the worst.

Deep brown with reddish highlights. Very minimal tan head. Dark fruits, raisin, plum, Deeply toasted malts, sweet caramel, wood, dried fruits. Medium, smooth body. Finish has velvety smooth sweet malts, dark fruits, and wood. Still pouring very well but maybe past its prime a touch as most notes really seem to be tailing off.

Small off-white head over hazy light-copper beer with a pink haze. Cheesecake a mile out indeed, with an artifical fruitaroma, probably meant to represent raspberry. More of the same in the taste, artificial raspberry and an industrial soft cheese flavour. Sour? Only on the lips, but masked in the mouth. Utterly slick, not very carbonated. Arguably one of the most botched beers from De Molen. Menno where... oh yes, Suria. Lucky Catalans.

Good punchy stuff. Gooey ripe citrus, marmalade, vanilla. Pale wood. Nicely rounded. Fairly soft on the palate. Some honeysuckle. Melon. Fun.
