Bottle at Dégust, Hoogeveen. Aroma is roast, huge oak, lots of red wine, caramel, some liquorice, boozy. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet. Body is medium to full. Total barrel takeover, not much left of the fruity bitter hops, but nicely vinous.

Bottle at home. Aroma is wood, whiskey, coffee, chocolate, strong liquorice, nuts, raisins, some tobacco. Flavour is medium sweet with a little bitterness in the finish. Body is above medium. A well-balanced Bruichladdich BA, flavours are quite harmonious.

Bottle at home. Aroma is malt, bread, sweet ripe fruits, some caramel, sugary. Flavour is moderate to medium sugary sweetness. Body is medium. While others ratings mention a nasty gusher, my bottle was actually undercarbonated. Not good, dull sugary malty ripe fruity Maibock.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is dark malt, roast, fairly balanced peat, smoke, coal, whiskey, touch of wood and dark chocolate. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and moderate bitter. Body is medium to full, hardly any carbonation. Balance is the key word here... Nicely peated, and here’s room for other flavours, such as roasted malt, smoke, coal and choc. Good!

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is roasted malt, whiskey, lots of oak, chocolate, liquorice, touch of coffee and a hint of vanilla. Quite heavy on the barrel notes. Flavour is sweet and above moderate bitter. Body is medium with very low carbonation -- I would have liked more carbo and body, it has a bit of an unsatisfactory finish after the very fine aroma.

Bottle from Biernavigatie. Aroma is roasted malt, pretty strong liquorice, smooth whiskey, salty liquorice and wood. Flavour is sweet and mild bitter. Body is medium to full with low carbonation. Well balanced barrel aging, bit heavy on the liquorice for my taste and could use a little more carbonation. Nice and smooth, to date the Bowmore remains my favourite.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is roasted dark malt, plenty of peat, strong whiskey, iodine, with some chocolate. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet and moderate bitter. Body is above medium with very low carbonation. Quite peaty, pretty enjoyable, bit one-sided, not my favourite of this BA series.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is dark malt, peat, oak, whisky, light roast, caramel, with ash and smoky notes. Flavour is medium sweet and light to moderate bitter. Body is medium. Has a tasty peaty barrel aroma, the beer seems a bit light to be carrying these flavours though.

Bottle from Speciaalbierpakket. Aroma is smoked malt, grainy rye, smoked ham, caramel, with a touch of oak, fruit and lightly peat. Flavour is moderate to medium sweet with a little bitterness in the finish. Body is medium. Beautifully balanced, the smoked rye is joined by subtle barrel notes adding more richness. Well done Berghoeve.
