Draft. Murky brown color, thin tan head. Aroma has spice not readily identifiable as thyme, but you know something is there. Taste starts roasty and caramel, then the spice comes in subtley. Nice.

Some bar with a name I forgot: Pours a cloudy orange color with a nice white head. Aroma is of Belgian yeast, with some nice hoppy notes. Taste is predictable. Basically, this is a standard Belgian ale with a hearty malt backbone, but enough crispness to be very sessionable. Flowers, yeast, and a subtle sweetness. I can’t really complain.

Slightly copper and amber coloured body with an ugly but brutally large tan head. Aroma of fresh hops of citrus and grapefruit and a hint of pine. Medium-bodied; Pungent fresh hops show very well and leave the mouth bitter after only a minor malt kick. Aftertaste shows a lot of hop notes, some more robust malt flavours and a good earthy, herbal kick from the end with the intended bitterness from the hops. Overall, finally a good IPA brewed within the city limits - a very nice beer to try and a good fallback for someone who wants to drink a good local beer (that isn’t named Tupper’s)! I sampled this pint on draught at Birch & Barley in Washington, DC on 12-January-2012 for US$6.00.

RFD, DC 12oz ($6.50): Pours black with a brown head. Aroma is pretty much straight chocolate porter. I didn’t catch much Belgian yeast in this house. Taste is mostly chocolate with hints of espresso and plenty of roasted malt. This was good, but I was expecting something more unique and complex.

Draft at Churchkey. Poured a dark color, almost black in the dim light of Churchkey, but when put up against the light, it’s a maroon, dark ruby red color. The head is small, and tan. Aroma is roasted malts, with notes of dried fruits (prune, date almost). Flavor is roasted, notes of dried fruits. Pretty enjoyable.

Served on draft at the brewery. Pours a dark brown color with a medium creamy tan head. Decent head retention. Aroma of sweet malts, roasted malts, smoke and chocolate. The taste is roasted malts, smoke, cherries, plum, citrus, other fruits and a bitter hop finish. Medium bodied.

Can @ Dan’s house. Strangely enough, I acquired two cans of this in one week: one from foppa78 and one from beerandblues2 via ratman. Thanks for the dc tick. Hazy orange appearance with a tan head. Mild floral, orange hoppy, pale malty aroma. Slightly tangy, floral, herbal hoppy, somewhat bitter, pale malty flavor.

On tap at Meridian Pint. Poured a slightly hazy light orange color with a small amount of head and some decent lacing. Aroma is yeasty, with notes of sweet caramels, light citrus. Decent, refreshing.
