Draft at DC Brau. Pours very dark maroon, medium brown head with fair retention and good lacing. Aroma of roasted coffee, dates, prunes, dark cocoa. Taste is dark fruits in a background of roasted malts. Subtle and understated with lots of character. Finally, a porter that isn’t a chocolate syrup bomb. A successful collaboration, I think.

12 oz can courtesy of Suttree. Pour is a hazt orange copper brown with a thich two inch light tan head. Head falls with lacing. Aroma is fresh orange citrus peel, grapefruit and a crackery malt. A touch of honey floral comes out as it warms. Taste is resin grapefruit, mildly bitter citrus peel and the base of the cracker malt. Decent blast of pine notes as well. Certainly more balanced to the hops. There is an almost tart sour quality that is quite pleasant with the sharp hops. Palate is light to medium bodied, lower carbonation, bit of a limp body to it. Grapefruit and pine linger in the finish. Bright flavors, fun beer. Thanks for 51/51 Phil.

Can thanks to beerandblues2 (thanks Brad for restoring my DC tick!). Pours with a hazed golden to amber body with a large, foamy off-white head. Aromas of tea, caramel, spicy, grassy, lightly grainy. Flavors are hoppy, spicy, grainy, orange, hoppy, a bit herbal. Dry. Pretty bitter. Lively bubbles, spicy, dry finish.

Draught, 6.5%. Hoppy aroma, smells grassy and like fresh hops. Cloudy copper colour. Good refreshing hop flavour, grassy and rough. Fresh-cut grass and fresh hop cones. Rough bitterness in the finish, but it cleans the palate well.

Cask, 6.0% dry hopped with citra. Good caramelly hop aroma. Almost clear red copper colour. Very small frothy white head. The flavour is nicely hoppy, caramelly and slightly piney. Also quite alcoholic, tastes of more than 6%. Must be the hops biting. Late bitterness, quite distinct and a bit rough. A bit flat, would have liked more carbonation even though it is cask.

The Pug, DC tap ($6): Pours a cloudy yellow with a white head. Aroma is of citrus and malt. Taste is kind of sweet and citrusy. Plenty of malt. Not the most interesting beer in the world, but it is ok.
