On tap at the brewery. Pours a clear amber with a bit of a gold hue and a near white head that dissipates slowly to the edges and laces. Aroma has a good amount of grassy hops with a bit of biscuit and sweet grains. Flavor has a sweet grain and grass combination with a hint of biscuit and pine in the finish.

On tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear amber with a brownish hue and a gray head that dissipates to the edges. Aroma has a light roast with underlying wheat and just a bit of grass. Flavor has notes of grass and wheat with a bit of roast that come together surprisingly well.

Sampler at the brewpub. I don’t usually go in for chocolate stouts but I think I can definitely go in for a lactose-rich stout that tastes a whole lot like chocolate. That is exactly what this beer was, heavy lactose sweetness that comes off very strongly as chocolate in the flavor. Richly sweet without being sugary.

Sampler at the brewpub. Red colored beer in the dim light I was sitting under. I have to agree with the commercial description, candy-like. Akin to the Stranger Danger I was drinking. Plenty of sweeter hops and none of the grassy or piney hops. A stronger malt backbone but I did not get a lot of caramel flavors. I wish more amber ales were this good.

It was so nice I had to get it twice, 2 sampler pours at the brewpub. Orange colored beer. Aroma is bang in my face citrus, bubblegum, and mango hops. Flavor is my favorite kind of mix, sweet hops bubblegum heavy and low bitterness for these hops. Love the finishing hop mix on this beer. No stinky malt getting in the way of this beer.

Sampler at the brewpub. Well its a Marzen. it was clean but a very mild lagered metallic aspect. Not sweet at all, I preferred that. Not much to day past that. Nothing bad, I am just not a Marzen person.

Mmmmm... Kansas smoked beer, that does not come around often. I have had this a few times but this rating is from a sampler at the brewpub I had a few hours ago (wanted to visit my state capital on election day). Brown beer, clear. Aroma is mild on smoke, otherwise clean malts with alcohol. Flavor is again very clean, mild leaves with a nice kick of smoke. Just a smoke vehicle on a light brown ale. I like it, could drink it pretty easily for a while.

I long have thought about this beer, just shortly after moving to Kansas in 2008 I found this listing. At that point thresh and Greg had already rated, so I knew what it was all about. However, I was still tantalized by the beer. First, its name is so close to that of one of my favorite guezes yet so far. Second is having the gall of mentioning lambic in its description. It was as if there was some small chance for a lambic beer and the previous rates had just drank early test batches (or some other similar nonsense in my head). But deep down I knew what it was all about.

For a few reasons, I never thought I would get a chance to savor it. First, no one in the KC area ever goes to Blind Tiger. No one ever drives past Free State to go to Topeka (for many reasons but especially not for beer). However, I did go once when a beer buddy from back East was visiting and I was giving him the local beer tour. However, the beer was not on tap at that time. I doubt that any of the local RBians have visited the place more than once or twice in their beer lives. So, at that point I too thought I would never go again. However, another one of those "beer moments" that happens in life by circumstance struck me. I had another visit from a beer buddy back East (dickinsonbeer). It is as if the beer gods wanted me to have another chance, even if I knew what the beer was all about. We decided to include it in our local beer trip and we even convinced Indra to come along (this was only his second visit ever and he has been on RB and living in KC for over a decade). When we get there it was on tap, HOORAY!!!! I did not actually order it, that would be useless and a waste of money and time. Paul got a sampler and I took a sip....

as I said earlier, I knew what it was all about.
