Tap at KCBM competition. Pours clear but dark brown with a strong tan head that never fully fades. Aroma is thick and fumy coffee... well and basically that is it. Taste is a lot of seltzer and mineral coming in and hiding some of that coffee, which is still there but mixing with other flavors. Some prune and tobacco in there as well. Its decent but a bit too aggressive on the nose and then alternately masked in the flavor.

Taster at the brewpub. Pour is clear light golden with a smallish white head. Aroma of faint grassy hops, and nice maltiness. Taste is clean bright grassy hops and softly sweet maltiness. Additionally, there is a nice floral component. Nicer full body. Clean pils, enjoyable.

Taster on tap at the brewpub. Pour is a clear ruby golden. Not much of a white head. Aroma is some resin hops, a touch on pine underneath that. Taste is bitter resin pine, some sweet burnt caramel. Finish is a little mineral dirtiness. Decent IPA, very quaffable.

Taster on tap at the brewpub. Pour is clear caramel brown and ruby. Not much of an off-white head. Aroma of biscuit malt and hazelnuts. Taste is nicely sweet and nutty, good full flavor with a lighter drinkable palate. Some nice lingering roastiness in the finish. Nice amber.

Taster on tap at the brewpub. Pour is a cloudy hazy yellow white. Nice white head. Aroma of wheat and some chemical sweetness. Taste is wheat initially, and then a shot of chemically sweet butter (diacetyl, likely). Probably decent wheat when clean, though as I had it, it was pretty rank.

Pour is a brown with a average with head. Aroma is not that smoky on the first whiff but more of a sweet malt. Flavor has more of the smoke but nothin over the top. It does leave a ham/bacon on the tounge as this goes down. I used to hate smoke beers but Im begining to find that they have a place in my fridge in small doses.

4 oz. Taster at the brewpub. Pour is clear golden with a thin white head. Aroma of earthy hops and orange citrus hops. Taste is biscuit malt with citrus hop notes towards the end. This was actually a nicely balanced IPA, which I would not say for many IPA’s from San Diego. Medium body and nicely drinkable.

4 oz Taster at the brewpub. Pour is copper ruby with not much of an off white head. Aroma of British hops and biscuit maltiness. Burnt caramel. Taste is the nose. Burnt caramel, biscuit and bittering hops in the finish. Nicely put together beer.

4 oz Taster at the brewpub. Pour is all black with a nice tan head. Aroma is soft, whisky, floral and roasted malt. Nice nose. Taste is big whisky, some slick woodiness, finally at the very end, (and way in the background) is the stout. Really overly dominated by the whisky, too bad, had potential with the nice nose. Really poorly integrated. I couldn’t even finish 4 oz of this.

4 oz Taster at the brewpub. Pour is golden with a nice white head. Aroma is sweet apple and bready maltiness. Taste is bitter sweet apples and the bready malt backbone. Grassy, earthy, some yeasty herbal clove to the finish. Nice beer.
