Pour is yellow with a huge white head. Aroma is grainy and malty. Flavor is typical lager with a bit more hops like it says on the bottle. If it wasn’t for the metallic aftertaste this would prob be an above par lager.

Clear amber color, short off-white head. Hoppy aroma. Bit bitter taste. Just an average english beer.

Bottle. Reddish-brown/black beer with a thin cocoa head. Sweet roasted malt aroma with a bit of chocolate. Roasted malt, sweet chocolate, and some coffee flavors. Medium body and very drinkable.

This is an old favorite of mine. This used to be a mainstay of my beer fridge. As time has moved on I find myself drinking it far less but I still find it a most respectable brew. Sampled from a 12 oz clear bottle this beer pours dark black with a large creamy brown head that lingers and leaves good lacing. The aroma is sweetish toasty malts with hints of vanilla and cocoa. The mouthfeel is thick, creamy and smooth. The flavor is dryish with a strong malted milk presence, some cocoa and a mildly bitter toasted malt base and a hint of wood. Long toasty malted milk finish. Very good but no longer a favorite.

Floral, fruit aroma over copperish amber. Apples dominate taste with mild hops to pick up the end. I thought this one could have done a little more in the finishing department, but a fine beer nevertheless.
The second time around, this one is a little different. I’m picking up the same apple flavor, but the hops is more pronounced as is a caramel/sweet texture that I missed the first go-round.

Pours a jet black and no light shows through. Nice little tan head forms out of the bottle. Aroma is of a roasted butterscotch. Flavor is roasted malts and dollop of alcohol. FLavor may be a bit to weak in mine. More sweet than creamy but still pretty fine.

2004 bottle at the Downtown Liquors stouts tasting. Tasting this alongside some rather unspectacular, but good stouts (Gritty’s black fly, Guinness Extra, Avery Out of Bounds, Dorothy Goodbody’s, NC Old No. 38) and two very good stouts (Shakespeare and Freeminer Deepshaft), it is pretty recognizable, to me, anyways, how simple and boring this beer is. To its credit, it does taste flavorful, with a bit of molasses mixed in with light chocolate and sweet residual sugar. But there is no yeast presence, no thick, chewy, interesting body. Fizzy head and a clear body due to huge filtration and forced carbonation. Why did I love this stuff for so long???

Bottle: Poured a opaque black beer with a medium dark brown head with minimal retention. Aroma is quite incredible and consists of pure black chocolate, roasted malt and some coffee. Taste is also quite a treat with the chocolate hitting first (without too much sweetness) and followed by the roasted malt and coffee to finish the whole thing. Very well balance with limited bitterness, which probably makes it one truly good dessert beer. Wow!!! Re-rate 2008: Body si bit thin but chocolate notes are still as sublime as ever. NOt really complex but realy well done nonetheless.

Amber beer with a little white head. Malt dominated aroma with some honey in it too. Hops flavour with a lasting bitterness, big round mouthfeel.
