550 ml bottle, bought in Denmark. Nearly black (= very dark brown with a reddish hue) colour, thick tan head. Moderate roasty aroma, notes of coffee and chocolate. Strong roasty flavour with coffee and bitter chocolate elements, dry roasty finish. Clearly a good beer.

Bottle. Sweet syrupy orange-berry and malt aroma. Amber color with small head. Sweet fruitcake flavor with a light hops finish. A bit cloying.

A hazy orange beer with a small orange head. The aroma is sweet with strong notes of alcohol, which also gives it hints of metal, and for me it also contains an off-note of carpet. The flavor is very sweet and very alcoholic, the alcohol dries out the mouth, but the flavor also contains notes of peach and caramel. Not as good as expected.

Oh dear, I don’t think that I can have the same taste buds as everyone else or I had a bad bottle (which I didn’t). Yes it is black yes there is liquorice and a certain amount of burnt roast malt, but after that? Some alcoholic richness in the flavour, but otherwise not a patch on some other stouts. Drinkable though

Reddish gold colour. Apple and hop aroma. Flaour in the mouth has more apple and some red fruits . The finish has more light summer fruits and then a kick of spicy hop. Having drunk English beers for the past 16 years, I am not sure I have had anything quite like this. Certainly find it hard to compare. But I found the fruit flavours and hop spiciness hard to leave alone. Intriguing

Bottle. Chestnut colour with biscuity aroma, some fruity malt, some flowery hop. Good balance, well made and very drinkable. Not as good as the organic best ale or the oatmeal stout I had tried earlier, perhaps I did these the wrong way round

Bottle. I’ve always thought of Sam Smith’s as quite a small brewery so I can’t believe the number of ratings this beer has. Not that it is a bad beer, quite the opposite. Pours black with a cream colour head. Lots of roasted malt aromas including coffee, chocolate, cereals and liquorice. Good im mouth with a good dryness to balance the slight sweetness of the malts with a good finish. Excellent stout.

Bottle. Copper coloured hops and caramel aroma pours lasting off white head, really lovely flavour reminiscent of old brewery bitter biscuity malt and flowery hops . Lovely

Bottle. Nutty malt and hops aroma. Cola brown color - moderate efferverscence, little head. Walnut/pecan flavor with strong hops finish. Nice drink when you don’t want the thickness of a stout or porter.

Bottle. Big oat malt and hops aroma. Dark brown/black color - can’t tell the bottle is clear and not brown until you pour - moderate tan head. Sweet oat malt flavor up front with notes of walnuts and molasses. A nice bitter hops finish. Smooth and drinkable however a bit light body - I personally would like it to be thicker.
