Cask at Three Judges, Glasgow. It pours clear deep brown with a small beige head. The nose is earthy, plum, raisin, date, light caramel and faint jam. The taste is smooth, wood, leather, plum skin, raisin, earth and twiggy with a drying finish. Light-medium body and soft carbonation. Not a whole lot going on. Twiggy brown...

Cask at Wetherspoons, Central Milton Keynes. Reddish brown with very little head. Sour, earthen smell. Taste is a grainy bittersweet sour with an astringent finish and aftertaste. Weak mouthfeel. No, just no. Disappointing on every level.

Earl of Essex. Cask. Clear deep amber beer, small bubbly pale cream colour head. Palate is light and fairly dry. modest carbonation. Has a dusty feel as many EoE casks do. Bitterish toffee malts, thin. Light apple tone and bitter floralness. Dry finish. Mmm not quite right but not terrible.
