Bottle at the Pembury Tavern, London, on 8th July 2009. Pours amber coloured with thick, white, well-laced head. Absolutely bursting with flavour with an abundance of spices and malts which then evolve to very dry hoppiness on a fizzy, lively mouthfeel. A very satisfying finish of bitterness and dry hoppiness provides a perfect cadence to the cascade of flavours in this delicious beer. A real treat.

Bottle. Hazy orange pour with a decent white head. Fruity aroma. Quite bitter, orangey, slightly sour taste. This is actually my least favourite Belgian trappist ale. Really love the Orval glass but never really got hooked on the beer itself.

The Orval taste isn’t for everyone but it’s unique and memorable, and goes great with pretty much every meal. Aside from that, this is a classic trappist - great foam, great blonde colour. Curious aroma and unique taste of fruity hops and grains. Give it a try and you’ll either be loving it or....not.

2008 bottle. Clear amber with a big and lasting white head. Lots of brett,m barnyard and grapefruit, in the aroma. Sweetish with a drying tartness. Clearly thinner than the regular.

Bottled on: 08/01/2008: Strong and lusciously sweet and fruity aroma of hard candy, strawberry and blueberry syrup. Hazy amber, huge yellowish head. Geysers of carbonation roll upward from the bottom of the glass. Well balanced flavor of hearty malt, sweet and tart apple and pear. A nice mustiness lingers on the palate. Alcohol content is magnified rather than concealed. ABV listed on the label as 6.9% and seems stronger than that. Not terribly complex, but should never be changed. Classic!

The bottle looks really good, the beer in the glass also. Quite sourish aroma. Starts not as sourish as exspected, strong, modest alcoholic, spicy, notes of peach. Well balanced, warming finish. Really good!

Bottle Clear, blond to amber body. Off-white head. Aroma of hops, grass and some malts. Moderately bitter flavour, but somewhat weak. Quite nice anyway.
