(Re-rate at Pikkulintu on 2008-10-09, bottled on 05/09/2007) Amber. Hazy. Medium sized quickly disappearing head. Sour, malty, yeasty and fruity nose. Medium bodied and dry palate with medium carbonation. Raisin, sourness, hops, sweetness and bitterness in taste. Long lasting a bit sour and bitter aftertaste. (Bottle at Hilpeä Hauki on 2008-04-25, I didn’t check the BBE date) Amber and quite clear. White medium sized head. Sour and fruity nose which contains at least apple aromas. Taste contains sour milk and hop bitternes. Some sweetness from malts. Mostly dry palate. Nice and different.

Bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville. Pours orangish-brown with a massive head so big my Duvel glass couldn’t accomadate the bottle in the first pour. A very sour earthy bitter yeasty aroma. Bitter, earthy and highly complex taste. I got some definite flavors of mint and tea. Interesting.

Pours hazy orange with off white head. Aroma of hops, malts and some funkiness. Flavor is slighly bitter and finish is dry. Medium body with effervescent carbonation. The more of this I drink, the more I want to drink. A great brew.

Sweet distracting vanilla candy fragrance. Big head, very appealing head, visually stimulating when you look closely. I hate to focus on the head but it goes rocky after a few minutes and it then gets darkly dotted stained from the drippings off the bottom of the bottle. Perfect carbonation greets the palate and you can see it constantly rolling in the brew, quite entertaining. Very nice balance of hops and malt land on the taste buds. Not over the top except for the level of enjoyability. In my humble opinion, this is a fine example of what beer should be. Friendly in every respect. Exquisitely beauteous. This could be the perfect session brew if it wasn’t for the mild bitter linger, which may I say is quite humble!

First trappist beer, hope for many more. 0.33L bottle. Hazy dark orange colour. Strong barnyard and calvados aroma with some nutmeg appearing behind it.Quite subtle but expressive sourness that seems to fill the mouth. Long and lingering aftertaste of sour apples. This is a beer to sip slowly as it warms up, and enjoy every mouthfull.

Bottle brewed June 20, 2007 with 6.9% ABV indicated. My least favorite brew labeled Trappist that I have tasted thus far. Aroma was pretty nice but did have a slight off scent of sour milk or something similar (maybe chalk). Pours a beautiful amber-orange with a hazy, but still obviously sparkling content. Head is average size, rock, and only just off white. Flavor of mine was just salty and bitter, no real depth or character. Went down dry and metallicy at the end. It would take a bit of convincing for me to buy this again. AR: 6; AP: 4; F:5; M:3; O:10; TS: 2.8; RE:Rate: February 2008 Bottling. Pours with a huge, off-white, foamy head covering a hazy amber body. Aroma is vinous, with brett, sour, with light fruits. Taste is earthy with brett, a bit sour, still one sided, pretty hoppy for a Belgian, and a champagne like grape taste. Lively bubbles with a water like mouthfeel,

Orange, brown body with some carbonation along with a slightly off-white head that leaves a nice, thick lacing. Kind of appleish aroma along with some spices... I really got a different aroma from this than most people got here apparently. Hella complex taste that changes completely from start to finish. It is a little bitter. Has a rather dry finish. Pretty light bodied but full-flavoured. Probably my favorite belgian ale.
