Pour a dark cloudy amber with a off white head. Aroma is fruity with a bit of malt undertone. Flavor is sweet with a bit of alcohol and a nice finish. Not the best of the Trappists, but still enjoyable

(Bottle, Akkurat, Stockholm) Pale amber colour with brief, white head. Fruity, spicy nose with notes of citrus peel, yeast and slightly earthy hops. Fruity, spicy taste with hints of citrus, yeast and spicy hops. Light body with a generous, spicy bitterness in a dry finish. Lots of character considering the low abv. Nice beer.

I actually was at the Orval trappist brewery when I was 18 yrs old. Don’t remember to much of it, only that I bought six bottles and it was fun to buy from the monks. It should have been now when I really love beer, and esspessially trapist. Apperance; Light amber, hazy with a big head. Aroma; Spicy fruits with a medium bitter ending.

Bottle from Systembolaget. Hazy orange with a huge white head. Most of the head dissaperes and leaves a lot of lacing. Fruity, spicy and yeasty aroma. Hops adds great complexity to the beer. Belgians realy are sucessful in using hops when they try!

Bottle: Poured a clear copper color with a creamy off white head. The aroma is a light fruit. The taste is smooth grain, malt, and light hop. Very impressive for a low ABV, do the monks know what they are doing or what?

33 cL bottle at DHVL. Pours clear and golden orange with a dense white and creamy head. Aroma is soft malty and with a very minor brett note. Flavour starts light sweet malty with a vague brett citric note. Dry wooden brett note on the back of the tongue into the finish. Smooth and easy. Light peppery finish.

Bottle at De Heeren van Liedekercke. Good grassy hop aroma, reminding me of the bigger Orval. Clear dark amber colour. Nice big stable creamy off-white head. The flavour is mildly hoppy. Has the familiar Orval hop flavour, only less powerful. Creamy texture, nice mild carbonation. Not an outstanding beer in my opinion, but good, refreshing and well-balanced, and very good considering the ABV.

[330ml bottle at The Retreat, Reading on 7/1/2009] Served unaged in correct branded glass, which my friends said looked like the Holy Grail! Pours a cloudy gold with a very large white head. Was immediately struck by the fabulous carbonation. I’m normally no fan of fizzy beers, but the soft, tiny bubbles in this beer gently caress your tongue, leaving a tempting tingle that you immediately want more of. The dominant flavour is lemon/citrus, with some pine notes and a little cinnamon. There’s a pineapple sweetness in the background, although the sweetness is thankfully lower than in other Belgian beers. The finish is dry, although not as dry as I was expecting based on other comments on this database. In fact, this is a very well balanced beer. But it’s the beautiful mouthfeel from the unusual carbonation that I’ll remember. [Re-rate, 4/3/2011, 2 year old bottle that Jim gave me] Having seen all the hoo-haa about aging this beer, I thought I’d give it a go. After two years plus, the fizz has died down a bit, to leave a beer that is very very dry indeed. Lemon is still the main flavour, but there’s banana making an appearance in the background, along with a hint of spice. I personally felt that tasted fresh the beer was much more joyful and full of life than when aged - I don’t think that aging has done anything for it. I’ve left my rating as for the fresh beer, because that for me was how it’s meant to be, and how it’s best drunk! Controversial, I know...

33cl bottle. Belgium beer number five hundred , 500. Bottle at the best beer bar in Belgium. 2008 edition. Pours golden copper with a creamy bubbly orval looking head. Vague fruity orange & hoppy notes. Actually like a lighter version of orval with less body & brett. Smooth & soft. Pretty damm lovely and drinkable.

A unique Trappist with an orange/amber color, lacy white head, and tastes of citrus/orange and coriander. Medium mouth. Good bitter finish. Mellows slightly with age if kept well. Very nice.
