Bottle.
A: hazy dark brown, small, foamy, tan head.
A: liquorice, aniseed, beef stock, brown bread, iron.
T: sweetish fig & prune, herbal liquorice & aniseed, toast.
F: herbal hops, spices, toast, touch of coffee.
P: medium body, thin oily texture, average carbonation.
Does have some redeeming 'brown' aspects but it leans too heavily still on the herbal profile.

Bottle from a local bottle shop. Aroma is sweet caramel malt, marzipan, infused whisky, wood, sugar, some dried fruit. Flavour is quite sweet with some warming booze in the finish. Above medium body. Too sweet for my taste.

This 33 cl bottle came from a retailer in Belgium. Generally I think barrel aging or infusing improves a Belgian style beer. My opinion. Now we will see how a strong pale ale reacts to it. I have a snifter ready to receive the pour, a dark gold-amber liquid with a generous head of light tan foam. I smell the whisky immediately along with apricots and white bread. A drink is taken, well, this is a bit different. An unexpected amount of smokiness right away (scotch whisky?), wood, apricots again, alcohol, a touch of vanilla and some candy sweetness. Not bad but a distance from great.
