Description
WHAT'S AN UPSLOPE?
Meteorologically speaking, it’s a front range-covering, water-table-filling, snow-dumping weather pattern that anyone with bindings and a roof rack would die for. Beerologically speaking, it’s carbonated gold. In 2008, Matt Cutter, Henry Wood and Dany Page, kissed their homes in Cleveland, Atlanta and Argentina goodbye to bring their beer-brewing love affair to Boulder, Colorado. With that, Upslope Brewing Company was born. And after ten years of supplying Colorado with trailhead tallboys, and pow-day libations made from the freshest snowmelt, the finest hops and the purest passion for living life outdoors, one thing has become undeniable. These guys didn’t just float another microbrew into the sea of Colorado microbrews. They created a lineup of quality craft beer that tastes as good poured from a tap as they do pulled out of a fishing vest. In other words, for those who call the Continental Divide home, the perfect storm.

ON Tap at Payette Brewing, Boise. Cler nearly black pour, thin tan head. Classic dark roast aromas, and flavors. Picking up some smokked malts as well. Rauch-like. Clean finish and a smooth soft roasty trailer.

Can picked up from Beer Republic webshop Berkel-Enschot Netherlands and consumed at home listening to the self titled album by Das Format - Saturday 22nd February 2025, cooking Aubergine Chermouda, Smoked Aubergine with Garlic, Cacik, t's a beautiful day, snow still in the garden but retreating now. Pours warm gold, almost orange, a little haze, it looks good, oh yes white head. Nice bitterness, typical American IPA and I mean that very positively, okay I'm busy cooking with Loz.

$11.50 a 12 ounce can? I trust Upslope. Canned March 11th, 8 IBUs.
It pours a really dark brown with a minimal and short lived head of foam. Not surprising. No lacing.
The smell is huge with the Bourbon, has dark pitted fruits, vanilla, huge caramel malt sweetness, boozy! Hell, it's 17.5%abv!
Lots of Bourbon up front. Caramel malt sweetness is in your face...chocolate attributes to the sweetness. Dark pitted fruits, vanilla, very very sweet overall and a syrupy mouthfeel to it.
Lightly carbonated, the syrupy mouthfeel is a bit much.
A fantastic Old Ale that must have cost Upslope a bit of bucks to cellar before releasing. Worth the expense? In my book, yes.

From my 16 ounce Prowler bought at Liquor Shed.
It pours a really dark brown with reddish hues, small tannish head of foam, pretty good lacing.
Rich caramel malt, molasses nose. Tequila is not up in my nose, which I like, but there's some booze, which doesn't bother me.
Mmm...so rich and decadent. Oodles of caramel and molasses that are very sweet but not beyond my comfort zone. It seems like I'm getting some vanilla notes, some booze from the barrel.
Fairly light carbonation with the luxurious mouthfeel. Wow.
A superb Barleywine that just happened to be sitting in Tequila barrels. I want more.
$10 for the 16 ounces.

12 oz can. Pours a clear rich copper-bronze color with a medium sized white head that soon fades away. The aroma is rather mild and understated with traces of pine, rock candy and fresh evergreen. The taste, like the aroma, was more subtle than bold--I get bitter pine, woods, rock candy and some sweetened malts. The palate was medium in viscosity and the carbonation was soft. Finished short and dry with a bit of astringency. Overall: Decent old school IPA. This went down easy, I rather liked it. Paired well with some old Swiss cheese.
