16oz can pours a clear orange with some fluffy, lacing white head. Nose is solid, some grass, some orange peel, a hint of soap, some lemon-lime soda, mild pine, lightly floral too. Flavor follows along, mild malt, a flick of metal, grass, orange, more lemon-lime soda, a bit of tangerine, some unripened stone fruit. Clean finish. Honestly, I was expecting more. It’s a good beer. Perfect for a 16oz can, fairly easy drinker, good summer beer. But it’s not a session beer, since it’s over 5%. I also expected a bit more flavor.

16 oz can poured into a Belgian snifter. Thanks to Richard from BBA for the can. Slightly hazy straw to resiny yellow with just under a finger of off-white head. Very tiny bits of sediment. Aromas of grapefruit citrus, lemon/lime, floral hops. Tastes of grapefruit citrus, lemon/lime, floral hops, light pine. Medium body with a semi-dry finish. Juicy mouthfeel, medium carbonation. Pretty good session ale.

Clear amber and copper coloured body with a ridiculously large, seven centimetre tall plain white head. Aroma of light citrus and grassy hop note with some light malt and a hint of yeast. Light to Medium-bodied; Assertive effervescence with a light grassy and herbal flavour of hops, some subdued malt and a hint of apricot and fruity sweetness at the end. Aftertaste shows a very light finish with the hops coming out and perhaps some grass notes. Overall, a rather light IPA that is seemingly on the session side, but at 7,1% abv, perhaps not so much. Not a bad beer so much as it’s just lacking in the flavours of other beers from the style, especially East Coast IPAs. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Giant Food in Falls Church, Virginia on 22-April-2014 for US$1,49 sampled at home in Washington on 06-July-2014.

Draft at Capital Alehouse, Harrisonburg VA. Listed simply as Sour Blend and may be an alias of a beer the brewer calls Wild Virginia Blend or another called Atramentous. Fig and rum nose with cocoa hints. Mahogany, thin tan head. Lightly tart currant flavor, wood at midpalate, and a vanilla undercurrent. Alcohol present but tasteful. Ash finish. Delightfully enjoyable, well balanced and assembled.

Bottle. RBSG grand tasting. I need the label for this. If anyone has an empty, please let me know. Pours black off white head. Nose/taste of bourbon, bourbon, oak and chocolate. Too much bourbon for my liking. Medium body.

4oz pour at the Northern Virginia BrewFest. Poured a very dark brown color, almost black with a tan head. Aroma was some dark bitter roasted malts, with a touch of coffee. Favor had a lot of roast, not as much hop as I was hoping for, but at least it wasn’t an earthy hop mess that most Black IPAs can be. Some light citrus notes that were pleasing. Tasty.
