500ml bottle from Appellation Wines, Comely Bank. Pours near black with no head. Aromas of cherry and chocolate. Taste is more chocolate, faint sour cherry. Sweet cakey notes, although that might be the power of suggestion. Creamy texture, nicely balanced finish.

Bottle at home. Pours black, nose is meaty, smoked, roasted chocolate, taste is sweet, roasted, chocolate, little meaty.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fawn head. Thereโs an olive sheen to the black. Nose - creamy chocolate but the cherry is more evident. Taste - creamy chocolate with a coconut base note. Lightly sour cherry again. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long elegant finish. Overall - lovely smooth stout. Perhaps a porter, in fact.

Bottle originally from Cornelius, BBF August 2016. It pours jet black with a thick tan head. The aroma is rich roasted malt, plenty of coffee, liquorice, malt loaf, some umami and eccles cake. The taste is smooth, roasty, coffee, liquorice, earthy, dried fruits, fruit cake, umami and a touch of spice with a smooth, toasty finish. Light - medium body and soft carbonation. Pretty nice low abv stout.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. This bottle is 4.8% and may be a completely new recipe but based upon the fact that many are merged when name and percentage are close Iโve put my rating under the existing 5.1% porter entry. There may be many examples of this for this brewery and they probably do warrant new entries since the brewery has recently changed owner/brewer. Appearance - opaque black with a lovely fluffy fawn head. Nose - creamy chocolate. Dried fruits. Beef stock. Taste - chocolate and prunes. Tonnes of cream on the backdrop. Palate - medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long elegant finish. Overall - big flavours for a relatively low ABV. Perhaps, new brewer, Martinโs best work to date.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. This one is 5.8% and the label is slightly different, but I figured it was a re-work of roughly the same beer. Appearance - golden orange with a light haze and a nice fluffy head. Nice natural carbonation going on. Nose - oranges and resin. Taste - bitter orange and a little herbaceous. More resin. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy texture and a long bitter finish. Overall - good balance between having enough flavour and drinkability.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. It pours clear gold with a medium white head. The aroma is fresh, bready, biscuit, hay and mild sweetness. The taste is dry, clean, toasted grain, rich tea biscuit, porridge, light lemon, spice and grass with a dry finish. Light - medium body and moderate carbonation. Nice old-achool pale ale character.

Bottle from Appellation Wines. Appearance - dark brown to black with a lovely fawn head. Nose - molasses and biscuit. Tar. Taste - more molasses. Black jacks. Biscuit and honeycomb. Palate - close to medium bodied with a creamy yet tangy texture and a long dry finish. Overall - good level of complexity.

Level 42 bottleshare. Thanks to Paul. Lightly hazy orange - amber beer, small cream colour head. Airy palate, fine carbonation. Fluffy malts, rich and sweet, touch of caramel. Whisper of wood. Good floral dried fruits. A mild bitterness comes in on the light finish. Rich and tasty bitter. I really like these glimpses of the past, hope Luckie continue the tradition.

Bottle shared on Level 42 27/07/2016. Many thanks to Paul for this one. A hazed reddy orange coloured pour with a big frothy beige head. Aroma is earthy nutty grains, woody apple core, apple pie. Flavour is composed of semi sweet earthy grains, little staling, nutty, sweet apple, creamy. Palate is medium sweet, prickly carbonation, rounded, some staling. Ok.
