Description
The history of the brewery begins in 1821, when Messrs Wauters, Faseert and Neyt founded the Halve Maan brewery in Hulst. The Hulsterse Brouwers persist in brewing top-fermented beer. Even when all other Dutch breweries brew Pilsener, traditional beer still flows from the kettles in Hulst. In 1968, the brewery in the city center of Hulst was closed and the cellar rights were sold to Paul Vermeersen, who before then was a distributor of Hulster beer.
In 1989, a new brewery was put into use on the Absdaalseweg. From 2010, the old brewery installation was thoroughly modernized. In 2016, the name “Beer Brewery Vermeersen” was adopted. The brewery is currently focusing on brewing beautifully balanced beers from, as far as possible, local ingredients for the Zeeland Market.

30cl Bottle from De Bierkoning. Clear brown colour with a red hue, off white head. Aroma of dark fruits, sweet, rye, metal, light spicy. Flavour is sweet, metallic, light malty, rye, light fruity, bit of chocolate, light spices. Light bodied. Too metallic, and definitely overcarbonated.

Sweet liquorice is present in aroma and flavour. Has a slightly sour edge and a sticky sweet aftertaste. The sharp sourness does not sit well with this beer.

(Draught at Arendsnest, Amsterdam, 15 July 2011) Golden colour with frothy, white head. Fruity nose with apricots, citrus and spicy hints of coriander. Fruity taste with notes of apricots, peaches, citrus, tropical fruit and a mild, spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body, with balanced sweetness. Quite nice.
