Grabbed this 2004 vintage from bottleworks. Pours clear amber with off white head. The aroma is full with bold cherry, plum, sugar stewed raisins, some sweet and roasty malts. The notes are smooth and blended. The taste begins malty sweet. Yum. Much like the nose the flavor is smooth and blended with pure goodness bringing up notes of cherries, plums, prunes, sugar coated and then stewed raisins. This is very smooth, as noted above, and tasty with plenty of yum.

Bottle, 7.5%. Sweet and spicy aroma. Cloudy golden colour. The flavour is sweet and spicy, but unfortunately has some metal/blood. Good mouthfeel.

2004 330 ml bottle from Bottleworks; Nose of golden raisins, yeast, and light Belgian spices (mostly cloves); lightly hazy yellow with a huge, glass-lacing, longlasting, pale yellowish head; Flavor has a little hop bitterness, lots of clove and corriander spiciness and pepperiness, and a minor tart note; it finishes with mild bitterness.

2004 bottle - Yeast flakes swirl in this light amber brew with a big white head. It has a very fruity aroma. The flavor is sweet malt and dark fruits with a little alcohol coming through, especially in the finish. This medium bodied beer is very good and IMO is underrated here. There seem to be a few bad bottles floating around, but mine was fine.

12 oz brown bottle, bottled in 2004. Wet horse rope aroma. Dark brown and cloudy. Not what I expected, way too much alky in the flavors. For some reason I was expecting a flemish sour ale. Yes, there are hints of sour in there but this is way over the top in the alky arena. Alky content is certainly present. This taste somewhat like an imperial sour ale. The sour flemish is supressed for the most part tho it keeps sticking it’s little head out from around the corner. $4 for a 12 0z bottle and I heard that is cheap. . Finish is alky in yer face mixed with hay. Rude and crude, will not buy again.

2004 bottle drunk on 6/28/07
Tons of protein break on the bottom, but I manage a mostly clear pour with a very surprising, stark white head this is fantastically dense and well-retained, even lacing lightly. The copper body still shows plentiful carbonation.
Very minimal oxidation, far, far less than expected, producing light powdered sugar notes, is quickly quieted by a zesty yeast that throws pleasant peppery phenols very mild, yellow fruit-laden esters in to the mix. A touch of dough and vegetal notes somewhat strain the livliness, but at this age, in this tiny, uncorked bottle, it’s a wondrous thing. The malt is probably the main reason for its resilience (that and it’s bottle conditioned), being pleasantly grainy/flaky and full of honey and lemon notes. This matches the yeast character very well and produces a uniform, concentrated flavor of a well-malted, clean and interestingly-yeasted belgian golden ale. Alcohol and flaws are not apparent, aroma strength is medium-high.
Following closely from the aroma, the flavor shows no twists and turns and exhibits a fine carbonation, creating as creamy a texture as it does a head. Wonderfully extracted pils malt showers the palate with honey in the form of tight, tingly carbonation, while some grainier notes help keep the texture from swinging too far sweet and creamy. Yeast spiciness peppers the finish, while all the while, a light vanilla note is found (from the age of the beer).
Incredible stuff, taking in to consideration the age. It’s too bad most people either A) don’t know that this is old and thus rate it based on it being a fresh sample or B) know that it’s old, yet don’t give it any leeway. But then, that’s a huge problem on the site to begin with, so it’s not terribly surprising.

A hazy mahogany brown with floaties and a thick light moka head. Pleasant aroma of maple, apple pie, vinous notes, and alcohol. In mouth, a rich brown sugar malt taste, orange peels, light hops, dark fruits and warming alcohol. Oily mouthfeel. Rich and pleasant. Bottled in 2004. BOTW.
