Description
The first references to a brewery in the Weltenburg Monastery are to be found in the Weltenburg Nekrologium, in which it states that the master brewer died. Another scientifically recognized source is a recorded entry in the “Libellus Traditionum”, which is over 900 years old, and which dates from shortly before or after 1050.

In the barely millennium to the present day, monastic beer production in Weltenburg was only interrupted by the secularization from 1803 to 1846. In 1846 the brewery became monastery property again, and it has remained there to this day. The Weltenburg monastery brewery can therefore rightly be called the oldest monastery brewery in the world.

Bottled at Löwenbräu, Stockholm. Muddy orange/brown., rich creamy head. Rich banana aroma. Sweet and caramlly. Medium bodied with flavour of ripe banana, rounded spritzy mouthfeel. The flavours vanish quickly, leaving me with an empty finish.

Bottled. Pours a clear, deep copper with a beige head. Malty, a bit roasted aroma. Malty and grainy flavor. Medium body. Malt, caramel and some hops in the finish. Definately not bad, but maybe a bit on the malty side, yet it could use some more body, flavor and alcohol. (070404)

Getreidiger, leicht hopfiger Antrunk. Weiterhin leicht hopfiger Mittelteil, die Würze ist wenig ausgeprägt. Dies ändert sich im Nachgeschmack, wenn auch nur wenig. Hier fällt die Wässrigkeit besonders auf. Schwach. Test vom 18.4.2007, Gebinde: Glasflasche Noten: 9,6,7,5,7,5 - 5,95

Bottle: Pale greenish-golden coloured, slightly hazy; deceptively strong sweetish-aromatic-hoppy nose; mild, but distinctive bitter-sweet flavour, soft MF; lingering, soft, sweet-malty and finish with a good injection of noble hops. A very good Pilsener..........
