Bottle sample at PWBF’14. Different recipe, not sure about the style though. Could be a porter as well. Anyway, deep dark brown to black colour, beige head. Aroma of liquorice, roasted malts, grain, some dark fruits, hint of tobacco. Flavour is malty, light fruity, roasted malts, cocoa, liquorice, tobacco, roasted bitter finish, hint of spices. Medium-bodied at best, a little over-carbonated. Reminded me a bit of Ancher OSA. Nice, but I prefer some of the previous versions.

Tap at the Arendsnest, Amsterdam. Poured a clear dark amber with a thin broken white head and lots of broken lace. The aroma is big yeast malt resin hop caramel toffee. The flavour is medium to weak bitter with a malty wood hop bitter palate and a long bitter finish. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

On tap @ Arendsnest. Dubbed ’American Amber’.Clear, brown-red rather than amber color. Dense, light beige head, good lacing. Aroma’s of sweet red fruit. Retronasal it’s malty sweet, caramel, light red fruit, light herbal. Flavor is moderate to full sweet. Body is light to medium. Finishes toasted, slightly dry and light bitter. The American part is in the finish, which is nice. Maybe a bit too sweet, but well crafted, as can be expected from De Schans.

Pitch black color, almost green brown head color. Sweet cocoa nibs, roasted malts. Sweet, malt, but feel the mouth isn’t so balanced and lacks interest.

Bottle at Deano’s monthly tasting, September 2013. Poured a deep mahogany with a frothy tan head. The aroma is yeasty with some sour citrus notes. The flavour is weak sour with a dry yeasty malty flavour. Nice but not that nice.
